Do you agree with this policy from the Conservatives? Here in Cheshire West & Chester, under Labour, our planning position is so weak when it comes to gypsy/traveller sites that we have seen many unauthorised developments that end up getting planning permission basically because we have to grant. It's wrong and it shows contempt for law-abiding citizens who don't seek to abuse the planning system.

Those who break the rules must face consequences.

Yet a small minority of travellers are getting away with unauthorised development that would never be tolerated elsewhere. This is unfair.

The next Conservative Government will end the two-tier treatment of traveller lawbreaking and ensure the rules are enforced fairly.
Our plan will give police and councils stronger powers to remove unauthorised encampments, tackle trespass and stop the abuse of retrospective planning applications.

We will ensure councils act within 28 days of identifying an unauthorised residential caravan site, strengthen enforcement powers and restore protections for the Green Belt and open countryside.

We will also give police powers to remove trespassers at a landowner’s request, prevent travellers from returning to sites indefinitely and remove the requirement for an alternative pitch to be available before action can be taken.

One set of rules. Fair enforcement. Stronger powers for those responsible for enforcing the law.

Andy Burnham needs to rule out tax rises to pay for his spending spree. Rachel Reeves raised taxes and we all saw what happened after that. Labour never understand that money needs to be made before it can be spent. Businesses are not cash machines for politicians.

Well, well, well, a little reminder that Conservative Councillors challenged Labour locally when their government axed the £2 bus fare cap in December 2024.

When Councillors Gittins and Shore were asked to stand up to their government, they refused and voted against a debate on the subject.

Perhaps they should have put the needs of their residents ahead of party politics? Or perhaps they disagree with their new Prime Minister reintroducing a Conservative policy?

Sometimes it is really important to work with others to try and deliver change. That's why we were part of a cross-party call for action on unadopted estates at the full Council meeting last Thursday. Our colleague, Cllr Lynn Stocks, led our response to this issue based on experiences within her Weaver and Cuddington Ward.

The Labour-run Council are badly letting us all down by dithering and delay on critical local planning policy - the formulation of a document called the 'Local Plan'. This week, at a meeting of the CWaC Cabinet, our spokesman on planning and housing, Cllr Martin Loftus, slammed their approach.
