Raise the colours for Harry, England and St. George!

Today Reform UK Group Leader Lewis Quigg has written to the Chief Executive to ask that the flag of St. George and England is flown throughout the world cup in support of our national team from the Council buildings.

Councillor Lewis Quigg also asked that staff are not prevented from supporting England during the world cup and flying the flag for England.

Councillor Lewis Quigg said "We should be proud of our country and proud of our national team. We shouldn't be shy in supporting our national team during a global sporting event like no other.

It is time we did something positive at Oldham Council and get behind our national team this summer!"

Reform tried to take over Oldham council but failed to win enough support

There are now serious questions for Oldham Council to answer around the Preston Davy case.

There is no amount of paperwork that can hide the fact a child was abused and murdered, whilst in the hands of those approved of by the authorities.

Evil is not a word anyone uses lightly but in this case it is wholly justified. The two vermin that did this do not deserve to see the light of day ever again.

Serious questions are being asked about the scrutiny faced by Jamie Varley, 37, and his boyfriend, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, after they were given little Preston Davey to look after.

Reform UK has expressed deep disappointment following Oldham Council’s decision to vote down proposals which many members had previously indicated they would support, prolonging the ongoing political deadlock at a time when the borough urgently requires clear leadership and decisive action.

At the recent local elections, Reform UK secured a significant share of the vote, with nearly 38% of residents across the borough backing the party’s platform. These elections were fought on clear and open arguments about the future direction of Oldham, providing a strong democratic mandate for change.

In light of this result, Reform UK stepped forward in good faith to offer to form a minority administration. This proposal was intended to provide stability, accountability and a clear path forward, ensuring that the council could continue to function effectively and deliver for residents.

Demonstrating a commitment to breaking the impasse, Reform UK also acted responsibly by supporting Councillor Byrne’s appointment as Mayor—an important step in ensuring continuity in civic leadership and maintaining the council’s ability to operate.

However, despite these efforts, progress has been hindered by the actions of other political groups. The continued refusal of the Liberal Democrats, Labour, and the Oldham Group to engage constructively has created a roadblock to moving the borough forward. Their failure to support viable solutions risks prolonging uncertainty and undermining the democratic will expressed by Oldham residents.

Oldham Reform Leader Cllr Lewis Quigg stated “Reform UK remains committed to working in the best interests of the borough. The party continues to call on all councillors to put aside political differences and focus on delivering outcomes that reflect the wishes of the electorate.

Residents deserve a council that is effective, accountable and capable of making decisions. Reform UK stands ready to provide that leadership and urges others to do the same”.

Reform UK have broken the deadlock.

Councillor Pam Byrne nominated herself as a Conservative and was supported by Councillor Mark Wilkinson of Reform UK.

No deals, no backroom deals, just the best person for the job.

We broke the deadlock.

Reform Councillors stepped up when others wouldn't.

At long last the Council has a Mayor and Chairman.

Whilst Pam is not of Reform UK, we have sent Pam some flowers to congratulate her.

We have submitted an amendment to split the role of Mayor from being both Mayor and Chairman of business at Oldham Council at Mondays full Council.

In doing so we are taking the politics out of the Mayoralty and the Council meeting so we can have a Chairman for those meetings and a Mayor to do the Borough proud.

It is a commonsense solution to a role that has now become a whipping post for political parties and jobs for the boys.

Reform UK is offering up a simple solution to a problem created by others in Oldham.
