Felt From the Fields

Felt From the Fields Wearables, art and useful household items made from felted wool. Hand-made in the Eden Valley in Cumbria, UK All my products are 100% hand-made by me.

My main passion is slipper-making. You can't beat a good pair of 100% wool slippers. Warm in winter, cool in summer, these are made-to-measure slippers available in loads of colours, with personalised adornment as required. I also make scarves, hats, and bags/pouches. I produce artwork using wool. In this, my main passion is producing lovely wooly sheep, made, where possible using the wool of the type of sheep depicted.

Dusting the old boy down for a wee trip out tonight with The Winter Droving. Looks a bit like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards. Hopefully, under the cover of darkness, no-one will notice that he escaped the shearers this year.....

Small display set up at Lowther Castle for this year's C-Art Open Studios. Do contact me if you are interested in anything specific, or would like to make an appointment to meet as I won't be able to be on-site as planned. My lovely fellow artists will be able to sell cards, hot water bottles, bags or the odd picture if they are there.
Please note that if you are visiting Lowther Castle there is a planned closure of Askham Bridge from 12/09/16 for ten days. Great timing! You will need to access the Castle by heading down the A6 towards Shap, and taking a right just before Hackthorpe village.

The end of the summer approaches, and with it the start of C-Art 2016. I had been hoping to exhibit at Lowther Castle this year again. Sadly I won't be able to make it as planned, as my daughter is having some surgery and I will need to be at home during the C-art weeks.

I am aiming to have a small stand there to show off some of my work, but won't be able to be there in person as I had hoped.

I live locally, so can always arrange to meet if anyone would like to chat about my work, or talk about a commission.

Any of the items you see can, in theory, be made to order. Lampshades in particular can be as specific as you like - I can make to any size!

The little lamps shown in the picture (or ones like it) will be for sale for £60.

I've been working on an all-white wall hanging with lots of surface detail. But last week I took an excursion back into colour. Nuno felted bags (my first!) and an orange pot to round off the week

I took the pics before the pink one was quite finished, the light was going. It's now been re-rolled and has a handle-hole

By Day, and by night.

I like how the little white one comes into its own at night, but the red/brown one, resplendent by day, fades a bit at night (dark wool - no light). This has been a good experiment in different colours/wools and what they do with and without light.

Some simple little jam jar covers. Once night falls, these will transform - check back later!....another Blue Day pic......

Embarking on some more learning with Fiona Duthie- fine felt - this time its lighting! Here's samples I made earlier in the week, showing the flat pieces, and then the same thing illuminated. Light changes everything!
