Do you heat your home using heating oil? πŸ”₯

A reminder that we’re working with Citizens Advice East Hampshire to support Hampshire residents who rely on heating oil and are struggling with increased costs.

As well as help towards the cost of heating oil for eligible residents, Citizens Advice can also provide general advice on managing energy costs and wider finances.

This support is part of the Crisis Resilience Fund, which helps households facing financial pressure with essential costs.

Find out more, see if you’re eligible and apply by visiting the link in the comments.

Please keep dogs on leads! 🐾

Many of us have a four legged friend (the type that barks) and on the surface our nature reserves might seem like the perfect place to let them off the lead.

However dogs off their lead can lead to many issues that we might not even notice or know about.

πŸ›‘ Dogs can disturb the nests of many animals including mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles and our rarest ground nesting birds, often leading to an abandonment of the nest and an unsuccessful breeding season.

πŸ„ Livestock disturbance - unfortunately this is becoming more prevalent with our team already having to deal with cases of livestock being chased, attacked and stuck in places where they need rescuing.

πŸ’© Dog poo - When dogs are off the lead it can be missed when they need picking up after. Not only does it ruin your day if stepped on, but dog poo can carry disease, poison the soil, and ruins the pristine landscape we are striving to create.

🐾 Not everyone is a dog lover - It is normal for people to be scared of dogs, you may know your pooch is friendly but other's don't (including wildlife). Our nature reserves often have educational groups on them, as well as people trying to soak in nature and the beautiful wildlife that live there.

On the reserves where we allow dogs, we ask all visitors planning on walking their dog to keep their dog on a lead.

You may have spotted our Councillor's who have been busy setting up dormice tunnels in suitable hedges and trees on our open spaces. This is a People's Trust for Endangered Species project to assess the presence of dormice. Tunnels are inspected fortnightly for evidence of use. Pleases click on the link for more information:

Happy National Hedgerow Week! 🌳

This is a perfect time to celebrate one of our unsung heroes. Often seen simply as boundaries, hedgerows are actually made up of individual trees working together to create a living and breathing ecosystem. Hedges support wildlife, capture carbon, and stitch our landscapes together.

By recognising hedges as trees too, we can better appreciate their value and protect these vital green corridors for generations to come.

Celebrate hedgerows with us this week! πŸ’š
