Different types of plates.

A question I’m getting asked a fair bit at the minute is what is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D plates.

Well here it is I hope this helps.

•2D plates are your every day box standard vehicle number plates. These plates are printed on a flat surface with a “Charles Wright Font” to each vehicle registration mark and is what comes standard to every vehicle from manufacture.

•3D Gel plates are made from a gel resin also printed to the standard “Charles Wright Font” and each individual digit is slightly raised and curved over. These digits are then placed over and stuck on to the acrylic part of the number plate.

•4D Acrylic plates are laser cut digits again cut to the standard “Charles Wright Font” and again each individual digit is then placed over and stuck on to the acrylic part of the number plate.
The digits I supply are 3mm thick and give the number plate a very noticeable three dimensional look.

All of the above are road legal and comply to both DVLA and BSAU standards.

Please see some plates I have made using my own private registrations to show how they look when made into number plates.

Please note:
Upon purchase of any road legal BSAU standard registration plate, two forms of identification must be shown to myself prior to any plates being made.
I must also take a copy of these documents to file for my records.
This is to conform with my license from the DVLA.

•Proof of ID:
Passport or current Driving Licence.
•Proof of ownership:
V5 log book or retention certificate.

I will need to see one form of ID and one form of ownership.

I can offer “Tinted Plates” for show use ONLY. These plates are not to be used on UK road.
