โš ๏ธ Multi-agency update on wildfire at Llanwonno, Ferndale

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and partner agencies continue to respond to a large wildfire covering approximately 400 hectares.

The fire remains contained, with significant resources on scene focused on preventing any further spread and minimising its impact.

Aerial support has returned today to assist firefighting efforts, alongside ground crews and specialist resources.

Please continue to avoid all affected areas, follow road diversions, and do not fly drones near the incident.

Residents affected by smoke are advised to following public health advice and keep windows and doors closed where possible.

Thank you to local communities for your continued patience and cooperation.

Our vision is to ensure that โ€˜the private rented sector in RCT provides safe, affordable, well-managed homes that support sustainable and accessible occupation contractsโ€™.

Calling all owners of private culverts on their land!

The summer months are an excellent time of the year to inspect private watercourses and ensure they remain well-maintained. Action now could make a big difference in the winter months ahead.

During Storm Bert in November 2024, around 64% of impacted culverts were privately-owned. These privately-owned assets accounted for approximately 20% of the total number of impacted properties during the storm event.

Here are some important activities that you can undertake:

โ€ข Check and clear blockages โ€“ by removing fallen branches, leaves, debris and silt that could obstruct water flow.
โ€ข Maintain vegetation โ€“ by cutting back overgrown plants that might restrict water flow.
โ€ข Dispose of waste properly โ€“ never dump household or garden waste into watercourses, as they could cause blockages.
โ€ข Inspect culverts regularly โ€“ to ensure they are not blocked, collapsed or eroded.
โ€ข Report major issues โ€“ if you have concerns regarding obstructions affecting a watercourse, you should inform the Council using its โ€˜Report Itโ€™ function online: https://orlo.uk/qghKj
