Thanks to Country Crafts for clearing the bridleway from the rear of Pavillion Close to Strawberry Lane back to its original width.

It is common at this time of year, when Councillors and staff across all levels of local government are away on holiday - that Thakeham Parish Council do not hold an August Full Council Meeting due to a lack of business and availability.

TPC initially left the slot in our calendar because we felt that we may have to meet to discuss further the Mushroom site planning application which is due for resubmission. We can confirm that this has been registered at HDC this week.

However, in order to do the due diligence required for Councillors to view the necessary information, and arrange meetings to speak with officials, so we have decided to cancel the August meeting as originally intended.

This will allow us to schedule in a meeting before our regular September meeting to discuss the application. When we know of the date - we will advertise it accordingly. We thank you for your patience during this period and hope you are enjoying the summer holidays.

Dear Residents,
Just to let you know that Monday's scheduled Full Council meeting (20th) has been cancelled due to a lack of business to discuss. This is commonplace amongst small parish councils over the summer period as people go away on holiday across many sectors.
Furthermore, TPC have had some extra meetings outside of the normal annual schedule to discuss matters that are now in the hands of higher local authorities. Information required to be presented or discussed at this meeting will not be available until a later date - hence the cancellation.
Until then, stay safe and mind the hot weather.

Have your say on new-style Local Plan this summer 📣

We are formally starting work on a new-style Local Plan for the District in line with the government’s new national plan-making requirements and would like to hear your feedback.

The new-style Local Plan will be called Horsham District 2045.

The first stage of making this new-style plan is a scoping consultation. This early engagement is a chance for residents, businesses and stakeholders to have their say on what they think should be included in the Horsham District 2045 Plan and how they wish to be involved in the new plan’s development in the future.

This consultation is open from 30 June and will close on 28 July.

The next stage towards the adoption of a new Local Plan which will get Horsham District back to plan-led development will take place on 6 July when the Horsham District Council Cabinet will meet to recommend main modifications to the draft Horsham District 2023-2040 Local Plan.

Cabinet papers outlining the proposed modifications will be published tomorrow, 26 June, in advance of the Cabinet meeting. Approved recommendations will then go out to a public consultation that will start on 13 July and run for six weeks until 24 August.

At the Stage One examination hearings which were held in April this year, the government’s Planning Inspector identified various modifications that need to be made to the plan. Since the plan was originally submitted for examination in July 2024, the government has introduced major reform to the planning process and, locally, we have seen the ending of water neutrality. As a result, the Inspector is now requiring the Council to plan for increased housing numbers.

This consultation gives residents, businesses and stakeholders a chance to have their say on the detail of the proposed changes that the Inspector has requested. All responses to this consultation will be considered by the Inspector.

Once these consultation responses are reviewed, the Stage Two examination hearings will start in the autumn of 2026. The Inspector will then proceed to issue his final report and the Council can move towards full adoption of the 2023-2040 Plan early next year.
