Well done to Croydon’s young people receiving their GCSE and vocational results today. As London’s youngest borough, our future is in incredibly talented hands.

Whatever is written on your results slip, there are many exciting opportunities and plenty of support available for whatever comes next:https://www.croydon.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2026-07/exam-results-guide-2026.pdf

We were proud to support Croydon Pride today, with our councillors hosting a stall at the Pride Fair in Braithwaite Hall.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, and to the organisers and volunteers who put on another brilliant festival for Croydon.

👮 Partnership Working Gets Results

It was great to catch up with our Council Enforcement Officers, Gus and Chris, who have been doing a fantastic job in Purley District Centre.

Rather than simply reacting to problems, they’ve built strong relationships with many of the young people who spend time in the area, and are now known as "Uncle Gus" and "Uncle Chris". Alongside increased police patrols thanks to Sgt Gates of Purley Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), including plain clothes patrols, that approach has helped bring antisocial behaviour down significantly from where it was a couple of weeks ago.

My ward colleagues, Cllrs Simon Brew and Samir Dwesar are determined to keep Purley safe. This positive outcome is what happens when councillors, Council officers and the police work together with a shared goal. Thank you to everyone involved for helping make Purley a safer and more welcoming place for residents, businesses and visitors.

🚆 Standing Up for Better Rail Services

Cllr Simon Brew raised residents' concerns at Full Council about overcrowded trains from Caterham, Purley and Tattenham Corner into London during the morning and evening peak.

Jason Perry - Mayor of Croydon confirmed that while there is capacity in the timetable for additional services, a lack of rolling stock is preventing them from being introduced. He also pledged to continue pressing GTR to help secure the extra trains that commuters need.

We'll keep pushing for better, more reliable rail services for Purley.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with us this morning on Foxley Hill Road. It was great to speak to so many residents and hear your views.

As many of you will know, Foxley Hill Road is due to be resurfaced next week. While these improvements are welcome, we're concerned that the works could encourage heavy goods vehicles to divert via Higher Drive.

Following the recent removal of the 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Higher Drive Bridge, we want to ensure Higher Drive doesn't become a regular route for unnecessary HGV traffic. It's a residential road used every day by families, pedestrians and cyclists, and there are more suitable routes available for larger vehicles.

That's why we've launched a petition calling for the 7.5 tonne weight restriction to be reinstated, with an exemption for local buses.

If you haven't already signed, we'd be grateful for your support:

📝 Sign the petition here: https://c.org/QthDMcnKnh

Thank you to everyone who has already signed and to those who came over to speak with us this morning. If you agree that Higher Drive should remain a residential route rather than an HGV shortcut, please sign the petition and share this post with your neighbours.

Today Croydon marked Armed Forces Day with the annual Armed Forces Flag Raising Ceremony at Croydon Town Hall.

It was an honour to join veterans, serving personnel, cadets and residents in recognising the dedication and sacrifice of those who serve, and have served, in our Armed Forces.

We thank all members of the Armed Forces community for their service to our country.
