Outrageous. A Croydon man nearly killed in a random attack learns his attacker is eligible for early release.

Cllr Ola Kolade warned Sarah Jones MP about the risks of Labour’s scheme. She never replied.

How can Croydon’s Policing Minister possibly justify this?

Sarah Jones campaigned to move East and West Croydon onto the Zone 4/5 boundary. Nearly 12 years later, both stations are still in Zone 5.

She is now a government minister. Her party runs City Hall, TfL and the Department for Transport. So what is stopping Labour from getting this done?

We’ve written to Sarah asking what she has done since Labour entered government and when commuters can expect progress. We support the change and are happy to work with her.

She campaigned on it. Now she needs to deliver it.

Thank you to residents who joined local councillors in supporting the planning application for a Padel facility on the Brighton Road, Coulsdon (next to the Harwoods car showroom). We're delighted to report that planning permission has been granted.

This is an exciting and welcome development with building works expected to start soon.

Croydon’s Labour MPs have a simple choice: stand up for our Green Belt, or back Sadiq Khan’s proposals.

His Draft London Plan includes 5,600 homes on Croydon’s greenfield land and identifies Croydon–New Addington as a Green Belt location for growth.

Sarah Jones once said: “We need to be brave and build in places people might not want us to.” Now she needs to tell Croydon whether she will oppose this plan. Natasha Irons needs to do the same.

Jason Perry - Mayor of Croydon and Croydon Conservatives believe our Green Belt is sacrosanct. We will do all we can to fight these proposals. New homes should be built on brownfield sites first, including in our town centre.

Cllr Jeet Bains has written to both MPs asking them to stand with Croydon and tell Khan to think again.

Labour’s new Planning Rules Nightmare.

Did you know? From 1st November, many planning applications cannot be brought to the Planning Committee by Councillors, Residents’ Associations or the number of local objectors for a decision by your elected representatives. This as a result of Labour’s new top-down legislation impacting the character of our area, flats, HMO’s, back garden developments and much more.
Residents’ rights are being withdrawn or severely curtailed with power given to unelected officials.

Mayor Jason Perry and Conservative councillors in Croydon will continue to ensure residents’ voices are heard but power has been vested in town hall officials to take many of the decisions that we most care about. So much for local democracy.

From 1 October, Labour’s early-release changes come into force. Eligible offenders could be released after serving just one-third of their sentence, yet there is still no comprehensive exclusion for domestic-abuse perpetrators.

That matters because domestic abuse is often prosecuted through general offences such as assault, criminal damage or threats to kill.

Women’s Aid and more than 100 specialist organisations have warned that the scheme could put adult and child survivors at risk.

With the deadline fast approaching, Cllr Ola Kolade, Croydon’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Safety and Justice, has written to Croydon MP and Minister for Policing and Crime Sarah Jones.

If Sarah Jones supports this policy, Croydon residents deserve to hear her justify it. If she does not, she should speak out and demand change before 1 October.

We were proud to support Croydon Pride today, with our councillors hosting a stall at the Pride Fair in Braithwaite Hall.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, and to the organisers and volunteers who put on another brilliant festival for Croydon.

👮 Partnership Working Gets Results

It was great to catch up with our Council Enforcement Officers, Gus and Chris, who have been doing a fantastic job in Purley District Centre.

Rather than simply reacting to problems, they’ve built strong relationships with many of the young people who spend time in the area, and are now known as "Uncle Gus" and "Uncle Chris". Alongside increased police patrols thanks to Sgt Gates of Purley Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), including plain clothes patrols, that approach has helped bring antisocial behaviour down significantly from where it was a couple of weeks ago.

My ward colleagues, Cllrs Simon Brew and Samir Dwesar are determined to keep Purley safe. This positive outcome is what happens when councillors, Council officers and the police work together with a shared goal. Thank you to everyone involved for helping make Purley a safer and more welcoming place for residents, businesses and visitors.

🚆 Standing Up for Better Rail Services

Cllr Simon Brew raised residents' concerns at Full Council about overcrowded trains from Caterham, Purley and Tattenham Corner into London during the morning and evening peak.

Jason Perry - Mayor of Croydon confirmed that while there is capacity in the timetable for additional services, a lack of rolling stock is preventing them from being introduced. He also pledged to continue pressing GTR to help secure the extra trains that commuters need.

We'll keep pushing for better, more reliable rail services for Purley.
