Incident Closed. The Coastguard would like to thank the public for their assistance with this incident. An extensive maritime search has been carried out alongside our colleagues at and no vessel or person in distress has been located within the search area. The beacon has not signalled for a number of hours and after consultation with our partner agencies we have closed this incident. We believe the cause was likely due to a faulty device.

We recommend that all safety equipment is stored correctly and checked on a regular basis in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions

Coastguard Rescue Teams, a Coastguard helicopter and RNLI lifeboats are currently undertaking a search and rescue mission after a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) activation.

The only confirmed information at this time is that the beacon is within a radius of 5 miles of Snaefell which provides a massive search area.

We request that all vessel and PLB owners check their personal locator beacons to ensure that this is not due to an accidental activation.

If you have any information or find an activated beacon, please inform our Marine Operations Centre on 01624 686628.

We are aware of a large navigational mark that has washed ashore on the West coast of the island at High Water this afternoon.

It is about 10 foot tall and is a Safe Water Mark.

We have contacted His Majesty's Coastguard in the UK as well as the General Lighthouse Authorities to report it.

The public are asked to not interfere with it as it is not secure and may topple. Coastguard units will be occasionally monitoring it and we will make plans to recover it in due course.

We are again warning dog owners and members of the public after palm oil has been washed up at Port Mooar Beach on the Island’s north east coast.

Palm oil may look harmless but can cause serious illness in dogs if digested, and may also be contaminated. Please keep dogs under control and do not handle the material.

If you find further deposits, please report them to the Coastguard on 686628.

This afternoon, there is a RED weather warning for coastal areas as the Island feels the effects of Storm Bram.

South to south-southwesterly winds will be severe gale to storm force around the hours of high tide (approx. 2:30pm).

This will lead to coastal overtopping and debris is expected in exposed locations.

Some coastal roads will be closed at 1pm to keep residents and responders safe.

They are the north end of Douglas promenade, Castletown promenade, Shore Road in Rushen and Laxey promenade and Tent Road, Laxey. Parking will be suspended on Loch Promenade walkway in Douglas.

(A RED weather warning indicates that there could be widespread damage, travel disruption and a risk to life.)

Also in this period southerly winds will increase severe gale force (60-65mph) with a risk of touching STORM force (70mph) for a few hours early afternoon, particularly along the west coast, then remaining a gale force south-westerly the remainder of the day.

These winds on top of the overnight and early morning rain causing oversaturated ground and areas of standing water, leading to some trees down in places and some brief disruptions/delays to travel.

For your safety, please avoid glens and plantations during periods of high wind, and be aware of storm-related tree damage in the days to follow.
