Restoring our play parks for children was one of my number one priorities when I got elected in 2024. It broke my heart how many play parks had been trashed and never restored with cuts and austerity taking their toll.
Every child should have a safe and clean play park to charge around, play and express themselves in the fresh air.
That’s why I’m so delighted that after lobbying government hard, Redcar & Cleveland has been chosen to benefit from a share of £18 million of funding to improve playgrounds across the country 🛝🌳
This is something I’ve pushed so hard on, because whenever I visit our local schools, it’s one of the things young people raise time and time again. Our children don’t ask for much, but the very least they deserve are safe, clean places to grow up, play and just be kids.
For too long families here have been left with tired, run-down play areas — the result of years of cuts that hit communities like ours the hardest.
Now, we’re turning that around.
This new Labour Playgrounds Fund is targeted at the areas that need it most, investing directly into places like Redcar & Cleveland to create safe, modern and inclusive spaces where children can play, grow and just be kids.
And importantly, this funding is coming straight to local areas, no bidding wars, no jumping through hoops, just getting on with fixing what matters.
Because every child, no matter where they grow up, deserves a decent place to play.
This is what Labour is about — restoring pride in our communities and giving every child the best start in life.
Now I want to hear from you 👇
Which play parks in Redcar & Cleveland need improving the most? What would you like to see added or fixed? 🛝🌳
