Fostering isn’t about one person taking the lead.

Men can be primary carers and are often actively involved in every part of fostering — school runs, routines, conversations, and the small daily moments that build trust.

They’re not “helping out”... they’re foster carers too.

As Volunteers’ Week begins, we want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to our incredible volunteers across Surrey.

From our Independent Visitors, who show up with consistency, kindness and care each month, to everyone who gives their time to support children and young people — your impact is truly lasting.

It’s the small moments that matter most:
💬 A conversation
🎬 A trip out
🚶 A walk and a chat
These moments build trust, confidence and connection — and that makes a real difference.

💛 Thank you for being that steady presence in a young person’s life.

Throwing it back to 2018 and one of our early Surrey Fostering event setups — posters up, leaflets ready, and plenty of conversations waiting to happen.

It’s a simple snapshot, but it represents something bigger: years of showing up, starting conversations and building our fostering community one chat at a time.
A lot has changed since then — but the heart of what we do hasn’t:
💛 Listening
💛 Connecting
💛 Supporting people to explore fostering

Do you recognise this setup? Were you there? We’d love to hear your memories 👇

Today we pause to recognise International Missing Children’s Day, a moment observed around the world and felt deeply in local communities — including here in Surrey.

Children and young people may go missing for many reasons, often connected to vulnerability, instability or feeling unheard. For families, carers and communities, the impact can be lasting and deeply distressing.
In fostering, we see how safe relationships, consistent care and trusted adults can make a real difference in helping children feel secure, valued and believed in. Feeling safe enough to stay, to talk, and to be supported matters.
Today is not about statistics, but about care, compassion and commitment — and about continuing to work together locally to keep children safe and supported.
We hold this day with quiet respect, and a shared responsibility to protect every child’s wellbeing. 💙
