For the last nine days, Manahang Limbu and Nabin Tamang, from The Infantry Training Centre, have finished a full day's work and then headed back out onto Catterick Training Area.

Day after day.

Rain or shine.

Carrying 10 kg.

Running 10 km.

Tomorrow, they complete the final day of their remarkable challenge: 100 kilometres over 10 consecutive days, all in support of the Army Benevolent Fund.

It's been a fantastic demonstration of the qualities that underpin military service: commitment, professionalism, resilience and determination. When most people would be looking forward to putting their feet up after work, Manahang and Nabin have chosen to push themselves further to help fellow soldiers, veterans and Army families who may be facing challenges of their own.

The finish line is now in sight, but there is still time to support their efforts.

A massive well done to Iain Forbes, Lee Finch and Wayne Hackett on successfully completing their skydive at Langar Airfield, Nottingham. 🪂

Taking the leap is no small achievement, and the trio approached the challenge with incredible courage, enthusiasm and determination.

Their efforts are raising vital funds and awareness for the Army Benevolent Fund, supporting soldiers, veterans and their families when they need it most.

A special mention goes to Iain, whose skydive forms part of his Forbes 6 for 60 challenge. Best of luck with the remaining challenges Iain! 👏

On Friday 23 October, 'Big Phil' Campion will share stories from a life few can imagine. Stories of challenge, resilience, camaraderie and the experiences that shaped him.

But this won't just be an evening of reflection. Joining Phil on stage will be the hugely popular comedian Gavin Webster, bringing his trademark North East humour to what promises to be a memorable night of entertainment.

Some challenges are measured in miles. Others are measured in determination.

Over the next ten days, Manahang Limbu and Nabin Tamang from the Training Support Platoon at The Infantry Training Centre will take on a demanding personal challenge in support of the Army Benevolent Fund.

Every day for ten consecutive days, they will run 10 kilometres carrying 10 kilograms across the rugged terrain of Catterick Training Area.

That's 100 kilometres in total, carrying weight throughout, on challenging ground and in whatever weather North Yorkshire decides to deliver.

What makes the challenge even more impressive is that every run will be completed in their own time, either before or after a full day's work. There are no rest days, no shortcuts and no easing off. Just the determination to keep going and to support a cause that helps soldiers, veterans and Army families when they need it most.

The Army Benevolent Fund is there for members of the Army family facing hardship, injury, illness, bereavement and a wide range of life's challenges. Through this effort, Manahang and Nabin are helping ensure that support remains available whenever and wherever it is needed.

If you would like to encourage them along the way, and support the Army family at the same time, any contribution, large or small, would be enormously appreciated.

A much-loved North East voice joins us this November

We’re delighted to welcome Carol Malia, presenter of BBC Look North, as narrator for the Army Benevolent Fund’s Durham Festival of Remembrance.

Carol will guide us through an evening shaped by Freedom, Duty and Service, as we remember those who gave everything, honour those serving today, and give thanks for the freedoms their service and sacrifice have helped protect 🙏

With music, song, spoken word and moments of quiet reflection, it will be a very special evening of remembrance, pride and gratitude, and we’re so pleased to have Carol joining us.

BISMARCK CHALLENGE 2026 💪

The Army Benevolent Fund was delighted to attend the 1 UK Division Bismarck Challenge 2026 at Bourlon Barracks, Catterick Garrison.

Participants tackled a demanding 10-mile course carrying 18kg of equipment, demonstrating outstanding resilience, determination and teamwork throughout.

The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with members of the Army community, catch up with familiar faces, and highlight how we support soldiers, veterans and their families when they need us most.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, and a special thank you to 1st (UK) Division and 1st Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment for organising and delivering such a successful event, and for inviting us along to be part of a great day.
