The team at Furniss & Sons are enjoying carrying out roof works to the Grade II* Darley Cliffe Hall. The very handsomely proportioned West Front seen here dates to c. 1685. Charles Bowns, Agent to Earl Fitzwilliam of Wentworth Woodhouse lived here until his death in1818 He managed the Earl's extensive estates at Wentworth, Malton, Northamptonshire & Ireland

Keeping tradition alive at Wentworth Woodhouse, Furniss & Sons have been replacing part of the badly decayed stone floor to the East Front Entrance. A floor paving stone removed earlier was found to have the names of the craftsmen involved carved to the underside & in a gesture of continuity we have decided to place our names & date on one of the new stones. t,was a great discovery for us as the carver, Jno. Utltey is the son of our ancestor Truelove Uttley, a Stonemason & Carver....

Dave Johnson, (volunteer) & Dave Brown (Furniss & Sons) apply the finishing touches following refurbishment of the magnificent 18th c. brass chandelier which hangs in The Chapel, at Wentworth Woodhouse.
Dave Johnson "Stair Rod Dave" has spent many hours lovingly restoring & cleaning the chandelier which is here in the process of being lacquered prior reassembly.

These stone kerbs now on Main Street in the village of Wentworth were moved from nearby Birdwell in the 1980's The strange markings to the edge of the stones were caused by a Churchill Tank colliding with the kerb edge whilst out on a test drive (in the 1940's) from Newton Chambers factory at Warren Lane, Tankersley. Over a 1,000 were built there.

Here Furniss & Sons are using a traditional technique known as "Gauging" or "Rubbing" to carve handmade bricks. The bricks are skilfully cut & rubbed to shape, they will then be laid, replacing a defective door-head to the Grade I West Front at .

Conservation work to lime plaster moulding being undertaken by Furniss & Sons to a Historic Church. In the picture on the left, the mouldings are being re-run in situ, gradually forming up the profile in layers using traditional materials, the picture on the right shows the fully restored Chancel Arch following decoration with a lime wash.

St John's Bilton, following the taking down of the top half of the Bell Tower scaffolding, revealing the new roof, new lime mortar pointing & the masonry repairs, which should help protect the tower against the worst of what the North Yorkshire weather can throw at it.
