RAF Northolt HIVE

RAF Northolt HIVE RAF Northolt is in the Ruislip Gardens area of Ruislip, London Borough of Hillingdon, and county of Middlesex.

It is approximately 15 miles from Central London, 20 miles from Windsor and 40 miles from Oxford. The area is served mainly by 3 motorways – the M4, M40 and M25 – and the A40 and Heathrow Airport is approximately 13 miles away. The Borough of Hillingdon has over 3000 acres of parks and open spaces and many facilities for recreation and sport. The Grand Union Canal runs along the Borough’s western

boundary. A memorial to Polish airmen who lost their lives in the Second World War is located near the southeastern corner of the airfield; its presence acknowledged by the name of the adjacent junction – ‘Polish War Memorial’ - on Western Avenue. The closest areas are, Ruislip, South Ruislip, West Ruislip, Ruislip Manor, Harefield, Eastcote, Ickenham, Pinner, Northwood and Uxbridge. An operational aerodrome since 1915, RAF Northolt comprises 2 Wings and many Lodger Units: Support & Operations Wing, 32(The Royal) Squadron, No 1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (AIDU), British Forces Post Office (BFPO), The King's Colour Squadron (63 Squadron RAF Regiment), Headquarters Music Services and the Central Band of the RAF, Military Aviation Authority (MAA), Service Prosecution Authority (SPA) and No 600 (City of London) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force. RAF Northolt is also home to a variety of other smaller Lodger Units: Naval Aeronautical Information Centre (NAIC), the Royal Navy Presentation Team, the Polish Records Office and the Army's No 621 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Squadron of the Royal Logistics Corps. The No 11 Group (Battle of Britain) Operations Room Museum, located at Uxbridge, is one of Hillingdon’s most important buildings and is of national significance. It was from here that the air defence of London and the south-east of England was coordinated during the Battle of Britain (July – October 1940) and throughout the Second World War. Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve is 700 acres of ancient woodland that once provided timber for the building of Windsor Castle and great battleships of the past. Today the woods offer a quiet haven for recreation from walking to horse riding. Ruislip Lido, a 60-acre lake with sandy beaches and a narrow gauge railway around it, is set on the edge of Ruislip woods.

2026 Reserves Continuous Attitude Survey

4,587 responses were received representing an overall Tri-Service response rate of 24%.

A detailed breakdown of the Tri-Service results can be found on the gov.uk website here.

The RAF reports are available for internal viewing on the HQ Air Occupational Psychology sharepoint site if you have access to MODNET.

Speaking about the RAF’s ResCAS results, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, AM Paul Lloyd said:
“The 2026 Reserves Continuous Attitude Survey (ResCAS) provides an important insight into the experiences, views and priorities of our Volunteer and Regular Reserve personnel. It is an important tool that helps us shape policy, priorities, and future investment across the Reserve enterprise, so I would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete it. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us understand where we are performing well and, just as importantly, where we must improve. It will continue to inform meaningful and practical improvements across the RAF Reserves…..
Thank you for your continued service, your honesty in providing feedback and your dedication to delivering operational effect. We are listening, and we remain committed to building an even stronger and more engaged Reserve force for the future. There is no doubt that the RAF Reserves are a critical and integral element of our Whole Force, and the contribution you make to UK Defence is recognised and valued by RAF senior leadership.”
HQ Air Occupational Psychology team would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who took the time to complete the survey this year. The more responses we receive the more robust the evidence will be to drive through the changes you want to see.

The RAF Benevolent Fund - Family Mediation

The RAF Benevolent Fund can provide access to subsidised family mediation in the event of relationship or marriage break down.

We recognise that separating from a partner can be an incredibly stressful time and hope that some support with sorting the practical side of separation will help.

Mediation can aid in the settlement of disputes over child contact and living arrangements, child maintenance, property and money with the goal of reaching an agreement without the need to go to court.

To find out a little more about what this service can offer, see our website

Service Family Accommodation (SFA) Communications Update _30 July 2026

Hundreds of brand-new homes have been completed at Imjin Barracks in Gloucestershire, marking an important milestone in the MOD’s plans to improve housing for Service personnel and their families.

DIO have purchased a total of 281 homes near Imjin Barracks, home to NATO’s Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. These homes were purchased by the DIO from existing developments built by Taylor Wimpey, Bloor Homes and Bovis Homes.

Construction began in 2023 and was delivered in phases, allowing Service families to move in as soon as their homes were ready. Some families have now been enjoying their new homes for almost two years.

These homes have been designed with sustainability in mind. Features include energy-saving solar panels, low-carbon heating systems, smart heating controls and electric vehicle charging points. These modern features are helping Service families reduce their energy use and, in some cases, lower their household bills.

Pre-move out and move-out appointment reminder
We know that moving can be a busy and sometimes stressful time, and that plans can change unexpectedly. If you are unable to attend your pre-move out or move out appointment, you can change your appointment on the e-1132 system.
Attending these appointments, or providing advance notice if you can't make them, helps ensure your move out process runs as smoothly as possible

Summer safety – travelling over the summer
With the school holidays upon us, many of our families will be thinking about going away, whether that's a staycation or holiday abroad. If you’ll be away from your home for a period of time, we recommend the following steps to keep your home safe:

Hot weather can cause burst pipes, so it’s recommended to turn your water off using your stopcock while you are away. The stopcock is the little tap or lever on pipes that are often found under your sink.

Turn off and unplug electricals like your TV and small kitchen appliances like kettles and microwaves to reduce bills and to reduce the risk of an electrical fire.
Ask a trusted friend or neighbour to look after your house keys so they can make checks on your home while you are away.

For more summer safety advice, visit Defence Homes.
