The Central Band of the Royal Air Force supported the Ceremonial Opening of the Seventh Senedd, with Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla in attendance.

It’s always a pleasure to be on parade in Wales, and an honour to perform at this historic event.

What a joy to bring together the Double Reed community at RAF Music Double Reed Day! A fantastic day full of masterclasses, reed making, playing and all things double reeds 🎶

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the support from Howarth of London and their oboe artist, Olivia Fraser-James. Also a big thank you to Roberto Giaccaglia for his bassoon masterclass and Billy Harrold for the reed making workshop. 👏

The Central Band of the Royal Air Force enjoyed a brilliant evening performing ‘The Music of Stage and Dance’ at Epsom Playhouse.

Euphonium soloist AS1 Parker performed a stunning rendition of 'Benedictus’ from ‘The Armed Man’ by Karl Jenkins and the audience enjoyed guessing the musical numbers featured in the ‘Magic of Modern Musicals’ medley by Stuart Morley.

RAF Music is delighted to announce the appointment of Flight Sergeant Taylor as the new Senior Drum Major of the Royal Air Force.

Having served as Drum Major for both the Central Band of the RAF and the Band of the RAF Regiment, Flight Sergeant Taylor has led personnel at major State Ceremonial events and prestigious international military tattoos. Achieving this appointment marks the fulfilment of a long-held ambition, and he looks forward with great enthusiasm to the opportunities ahead.

As we welcome Flight Sergeant Taylor to this important role, we also pay tribute to our outgoing Senior Drum Major, Warrant Officer Phelan.

We extend our sincere thanks to WO Phelan for his exceptional commitment in the role, and we wish Flight Sergeant Taylor every success as he begins this new chapter.

Unfortunately Fraser Gordon has had to withdraw from the event but we are delighted to say that Roberto Giaccaglia will now be joining us!

Roberto is principal bassoon with the BBC Philarmonic and is bassoon professor at the Royal College of Music.

We still have a few masterclass spaces left and could do with a few more grade 8+ oboists and bassoonists. Please share and tag any potential participants.
