🇵🇸 12 NOON, SATURDAY 10 OCTOBER, VICTORIA EMBANKMENT 🇵🇸

Join us as we mark three years of Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people and call on the government to implement full sanctions on Israel including a 2-way arms embargo.

The global outrage at the genocide is not only retrospective, directed at the devastation of the years before the ceasefire. It responds to a present in which Palestinians remain exposed to violence, deprivation, and political subjugation.

🚨 WELFARE NOT WARFARE🚨

THE PEOPLE’S DEBATE
📅 Wednesday, 23 Sept
⏰ 6:30 PM
📍 Lewisham Town Hall, SE6 4RU

While central government pours billions into an expanding military budget our local councils are left to pick up the pieces.

The housing crisis in Lewisham is partially the result of decades of developer led builds which fail to provide social rents and family homes.

Take a look at who is steering these corporate priorities. Cressida Hogg, the current chair of BAE Systems, the UK’s largest arms corporation, was the Chairman and a Director of Landsec, the massive FTSE corporation driving the redevelopment plans for Lewisham Shopping Centre, which will force 15 towers on our high street with little to no socially rented homes.

This is the revolving door between corporate warfare and local displacement.

Council approval for schemes like Landsec’s scheme are partially to blame for Lewisham’s housing crisis.

The council must not use its state powers to sign a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to further Landsec’s plans. State power should be leveraged to build and protect council housing, not to clear the way for corporate profits.

Join Lewisham Peoples Assembly at the PEOPLES DEBATE. We need homes for people, not for profit!

With thousands now killed in the US/Israeli illegal war on Iran, and serious risks of the war widening, the British government’s decision to allow the use of Fairford, has dragged the country even further into this dangerous war of aggression.

Iran did not begin this war. The United States and Israel did. Iran is resisting an armed attack upon its territory and its people.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has approved the continued use of British military bases by the United States for certain strikes on Iran, maintaining a policy established under his predecessor, Keir Starmer, as Washington expands its military campaign.

The British government needs to use its diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. Central to this is withdrawing the use of British bases.

Britain’s attempt to hide behind the spurious argument that Fairford is being used for ‘defensive’ operations cannot be justified.

Actively assisting a country breaching international law is indefensible.
The overwhelming majority of the British population oppose this deadly war and oppose the United States’ use of British bases.

Join our Lewisham public meeting to organize against Britain’s pathetic subservience to the US war drive and help determine how we can stop this complicity in the war on Iran.

Daoud Nassar: a Palestinian farmer’s call to action 🇵🇸
Life for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank is becoming harder and more threatened. Settlement expansion, settler attacks, military checkpoints and growing restrictions on movement are cutting communities off from one another and placing increasing pressure on Palestinian families, farms and community life.
Daoud Nassar will bring these developments to life through his family’s experience at Tent of Nations, their farm south-west of Bethlehem. The family has lived on and worked the land for more than a century. Today, they face roads built across their property, restricted access, the development of a nearby settlement outpost, surveillance and harassment, as well as a long legal struggle to protect and re-register their land.
Daoud’s response is rooted in Christian faith and active, non-violent resistance: “We refuse to be enemies.” But his message is also an urgent one. The situation has reached a point at which concern alone is not enough. He will call on individuals and churches to act, and will set out practical ways in which people can support Tent of Nations and stand alongside Palestinians working for justice and peace.
Whether you know little about the West Bank or have followed Tent of Nations for many years, this will be an opportunity to hear directly what is happening, what it means in everyday life, and why action is needed now.
Jointly hosted by the Friends of Tent of Nations UK and members of the Time to Act campaign coalition, this evening will also be an opportunity to hear how you can take action through joining the Time to Act campaign, which brings together churches and Christians across the UK who are committed to working and praying for a just peace for all who call the Holy Land home.
Doors open: 6:30 PM. Tea and snacks available.
7:00 PM Talk by Daoud Nasser with time for Q&A, chaired and hosted by Ruth Valerio
