At CH-SS Ltd, we often talk about the practical support we provide - housekeeping, companionship, shopping, appointments and all those everyday things that help life run a little more smoothly.

But there's more to it than that.

🔎 It's noticing when something isn't quite right and knowing when to raise a concern.

🧭 It's helping families navigate services and understand what support might be available.

🤝 It's working alongside health and social care professionals to make sure everyone is working towards the same goal.

🏡 It's recognising that the person living hundreds of miles away may need just as much reassurance as the person we're visiting.

And sometimes, it's simply being there when a family doesn't quite know what to do next.

We're a small, experienced, values-led team.

We believe in continuity, good communication, professional judgement and taking the time to understand the bigger picture.

We don't just support individuals to live well at home, we support the families around them, too.

Good support isn't measured simply by the tasks completed or the hours spent, but by the difference those hours make.

Today, we're meeting a potential new client and their family, alongside the team member who will, hopefully, be providing their regular support.

It's something we feel strongly about.

We're asking people to welcome us into their homes, often at a time when accepting support may not have been an easy decision.

So why would we expect them to feel comfortable with someone they've never met?

Our initial meetings aren't just about paperwork and identifying what needs doing. They're about getting to know each other, understanding expectations, answering questions and making sure everyone feels comfortable.

There's absolutely no obligation to proceed.

And continuity matters.

We discuss when visits will take place, what they will involve and who will be providing the support, right from the outset, so everyone knows what to expect.

Of course, illness and holidays sometimes mean changes are unavoidable, but consistency should be the aim, not an added bonus.

We're not just providing a service, we're building relationships, and that starts with a proper introduction.

Sometimes it's not just about having someone there, it's about having the right person there. 💛

Over the last few days, our team at CH-SS Ltd have supported people through some very different situations.

🏥 Being alongside a family during a potentially life-changing meeting with a hospital consultant — helping them feel less alone while important decisions and next steps were discussed.

🏡 Making sure someone had a person with the right experience alongside her when a professional visited her home — someone she knew and trusted, who understood her circumstances.

🤝 Recognising that someone may be entitled to additional support from Adult Social Care — knowing how the process works and helping them take that first step.

🌿 And sometimes experience also means knowing when nothing needs to be organised or sorted at all — just enjoying a walk with a wonderful 97-year-old lady, listening to her memories and stopping to appreciate this beautiful view.

The support we provide can look very different from one person to the next.

🧹 It can be practical.

☕ It can be companionship.

🧭 It can be guidance, reassurance or knowing which questions to ask.

But whatever we're doing, the person providing that support matters.

One comment this week summed it up beautifully:

“Thank you for being here. We felt so much better knowing you were with us.”

Sometimes having the right person beside you really can make all the difference.

One of the things we value most about what we do at CH-SS Ltd is that we rarely work in isolation.

Supporting a family often means working alongside a whole mix of people, and sometimes the most useful thing we can do is simply try to complete the puzzle.

Over the last week, we have worked alongside…

👩‍⚕️ GPs and district nurses
🏥 Hospital teams
🤝 Social workers and other professionals
🏠 Other support and care providers
🐾 Dog walkers
🌿 Wellbeing agencies
🏡 Care homes
🏠 Estate agents

…and, of course, families themselves. 💛

Different people, different organisations, different roles, but often all working towards the same thing: supporting a family when they need it.

Our role isn't to try to do everything.

Sometimes it's about providing the practical support;
Sometimes it's recognising that someone else is better placed to help;
And sometimes it's simply about knowing the right connection.

And we're so lucky to work alongside some great people who understand that too. ✨

Well, the day has finally arrived and Emily is going off on maternity leave!

I'm not going to lie, I'm going to miss my sidekick ... our morning chats, messages and generally keeping me on track throughout the day ... there's going to be a massive Emily shaped gap at CH-SS Ltd, but, there is an important little man arriving who needs her more than me. 👣

Enjoy the time, Em, we will all miss you but you know we will be here when you are ready to come back with our new team mate!

📍 Truro and surrounding areas

✨ We are looking for a reliable, compassionate and practical self-employed Support Worker to join our growing team, supporting people to live independently and safely in their own homes.

Our support is varied, and includes housekeeping and cleaning, shopping, meal preparation, companionship, appointments and community activities, alongside helping people maintain their independence and quality of life.

We are looking for people who are happy to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in – no two visits are necessarily the same!

✅ Experience working in the community is essential
✅ Previous experience with housekeeping/cleaning is important
✅ Must hold a current enhanced DBS and full driving licence
✅ Flexible, part-time bank hours currently available
✅ £18 per hour
✅ Opportunity for hours to increase to cover leave and as our service continues to grow
✅ Huge potential for the right person/people

This morning I carried out an initial visit with someone who had contacted us about support.

During the visit, something wasn't quite sitting right for me.🤔

I couldn’t put my finger on one particular thing, but experience tells you when it’s important to ask a few more questions.

With permission, I contacted their next of kin, who explained that they had also become increasingly concerned about the person’s memory and what they were able to manage safely on their own.

Our role isn’t to diagnose or make assumptions but to listen, observe and recognise when there's more to something than meets the eye.

This is where experience, training and doing the right thing come together.

People and their families trust us to be in their homes, and with that trust comes a responsibility to be honest, trustworthy and willing to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.

By taking that extra step, we’ve been able to help the family move towards getting the right support in place.

Delighted to be back enjoying this view over Watergate and coffee from The Hangout this morning! ☕️🌊

One of our favourite spots to chat, breathe fresh air and be grateful to live in such a fabulous part of the world. 🌍

Our client has been desperate to get back after a few months of being unwell. We promised we would get her there as soon as we were able - today was the day. 😎

It was lovely to see just how much this meant to her. 🥰

Watching her visibly relax as we sat looking out over the water and enjoying her coffee was a reminder of just how important these little moments can be. ✨

A change of scenery, a favourite view, a great coffee and some time to simply breathe - priceless 💛

🤔Was it our qualifications and experience that prompted her to call? No.

🤔Was it the quality of our work?
Yes, but it was also something much more important.

Sometimes, hearing another person’s story is all it takes to give someone the confidence to make that first call and ask for help.
