Port Eliot House and Gardens

Port Eliot House and Gardens Magnificent ancient stately Grade I listed house and gardens. Home of Port Eliot Festival, fabulous weddings and civil partnerships. Film location.

Port Eliot is one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall; the perfect place for a wedding, film shoot or festival-styled celebration. Explore the treasures in the House. Gaze at the masterpieces by Reynolds and Van Dyck. Decipher the Lenkiewicz Round Room riddle mural. Wander amidst the rhododendrons and camellias. Get lost in the maze. Lie beside the unspoilt estuary. Bring your dog and picnic

wherever you like. The House and Gardens are extremely ancient and have been lived in for over 1000 years; the passage of centuries can be felt as you walk around the estate. The House was remodelled by Sir John Soane in the eighteenth century and sits in a romantic landscape laid out by Humphrey Repton which stretches down to a secret estuary on the river Tamar. It is a magical ensemble which in March 2008 was opened to the public for the very first time. The House and gardens have the rare distinction of both being awarded Grade 1 status. Children love to run free in the vast lawns. Others prefer the calm and dappled shade of the spring woodland gardens. Port Eliot is the historic seat of the Earl of St Germans. The family have lived at Port Eliot for hundreds of years, and have accumulated a magnificent collection of exquisite furniture and paintings. But the house is still very much a family home.

With summer galavanting along, it’s already less than two weeks until our next Country House Car Boot on Sunday 5th July at 10am! Hosted the first Sunday of every month through summer, this is a great opportunity to peruse some preloved usefuls, vintage gems and handmade items whilst soaking up the atmosphere here at Port Eliot and enjoying our gardens, stable yard cafe and rejuvenated pub!

Following interest from a few local craftsmen and women, we’re opening up the ‘boot’ to anyone who would like to sell their handmade items! We’d love to see your talents and creations showcased alongside the second hand curios and gems.

You can book a stall for just £7 here:

What a fantastic afternoon of painting we had yesterday with artist Louise Courtnell and our lovely, and may we say very talented guests! Here’s a little glimpse at what was created. Some really intriguing canvas’ each with a unique interpretation of what they could see and feel.

Thank you to Louise for sharing your rare and special skill and thank you to those who came along and made it such a splendid afternoon. We hope to make painting workshops like this a staple in our Celebrating Robert Lenkiewicz series.

The pub in our village has always been a staple in the backdrop of life at Port Eliot ever since its founding. A place to share stories, confide in each other, shelter from winter and rejuvenate with hearty food & drink and we are so proud to say that The Eliot Arms has never done it better than now!

The new menu has quickly garnered the love of whoever has tried it and the wholesome, carefully curated dishes by head chef Nondas have established themselves as nothing short of tantalising! One of our favourite quotes regarding the homemade moussaka is, “I’ve not tasted a moussaka like that since my nan’s dish as a child back in Greece.”

Let us persuade you first, then you’ll persuade yourself thereafter. Truly fantastic.

Drop by and refuel in and amongst your Cornish summer days out! Open Tuesday through Sunday. Serving food until 8pm apart from Sunday where service ends at 4pm. See you there.

Call 01503 232733 to make a reservation. Walk-ins also welcome.

We recommend following up a house tour with a delicious coffee & cake at our exquisite stable yard cafe and then a gentle stroll around the gardens to try and find what is possibly the oldest Yew tree in Europe!
