We welcomed a new addition to the team this week!

Our new Toyota Hilux has arrived and is looking rather smart in its Coastguard colours.

All settled into its new home and ready to go when the pagers sound! 📟

Found something unusual on the beach?

Although rare, it could be unexploded ordnance.

Stormy seas, bad weather and high tides can uncover objects that have been hidden for many years.

Ordnance can come in many shapes and sizes, so if you spot something you’re unsure about, don’t touch or move it.

Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We’ll work with the relevant authorities to make the area safe and ensure the object is dealt with correctly.

📟 Tasking #77 – Friday 2nd October at 18:32 📟

The team were tasked this evening to Porthmeor Beach following reports of a casualty who had fallen and sustained an injury.

After carrying out our initial casualty assessments, the casualty was transferred onto our stretcher and moved to a place of safety, away from the incoming tide and where we could keep them warm while waiting for the ambulance.

A short time later, the ambulance arrived and we assisted with transferring the casualty into the ambulance for onward care.

A big thank you to the members of the public who made the initial call and stayed with the casualty until we arrived.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

📟 Tasking #76 – Thursday 1st October at 10:20 📟

We were tasked this morning to assist St Ives Lifeboat with George, who had found himself stuck on a small beach between Porthminster Point and Carbis Bay.

George had been out enjoying a walk with his owner when he managed to take himself on a bit of an unexpected detour down towards the sea. After negotiating the rocks and even fitting in a little swim, he made his way onto the beach but then couldn't find his way back up again!

When we arrived, one of the lifeboat crew was on the beach keeping George company.

Thankfully, all our adventurous friend needed was a bit of rope attached to his lead, some encouragement from the top and a little push from below, and he was safely back up the rocks and reunited with his dad.

George even gave us a few barks afterwards, which we're choosing to interpret as "thank you!" 😂

The big boy had quite the little adventure before heading home for a well-earned dry off!

Members from teams across the area worked together last week in response to the major incident in Falmouth.

A great example of teams coming togethe and working alongside partner agencies when needed.

📟 Tasking #75 – Monday 7th September at 14:09 📟

The team was tasked to the Zennor area following concerns for the welfare of an individual.

We met with Devon & Cornwall Police and carried out a search of the area. After some time, the search was concluded and with no further information available it was determined as a call with good intent.

📟 Tasking #74 – Sunday 30th August at 16:55 📟

The team was tasked following reports of a missing 12-year-old in the Porthmeor and Porthgwidden area of St Ives.

As the team was gathering at the station, we received confirmation that the individual had been located safe and well. With no further assistance required, the team was stood down.

📟 Tasking #73 – Thursday 27th August at 15:34 📟

The team was paged to the Hell’s Mouth area alongside St Ives Lifeboat and H. M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team following concerns for the welfare of an individual.

Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that the individual was safe and did not require assistance. All teams were stood down.

This was a call with good intent. We would always encourage anyone concerned about someone’s safety around the coast to make that call.
