🚒 July round-up from Sandy Fire Station.

Apologies - but due to Annual leave and fire calls, we have been delayed in posting an update for July. So here goes with a total of 100 mobilisations;

29 Calls to fires in the open
5 Calls to Building fires
9 Emergency Medical Responding Calls assisting East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust
1 Call to Vehicle fire
28 Calls to Automatic fire alarms
1 Call to assist the movement of a patient assisting East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust
5 Calls to Road Traffic Collisions
17 Calls to Standby at other stations whilst they are dealing with other emergency incidents
5 Calls to Special Services

We have still been exceptionally busy throughout August and will update as soon as we can at the end of the month but we urge people not to be complacent.
The ground is still very dry and despite a little rain, it hasn't had much of an effect in stopping the outside fire calls we are receiving and a number of these are still due to people having BBQs, bonfires and campfires in areas near to grass and crops which then spread rapidly. Please be vigilant and help us to help you.

Our thanks also go to the farming community in general who go well beyond what we could hope for when we are fighting field fires and them creating fire breaks and spreading water to limit fire spread.

One of our busiest months of the year so far with 89 mobilisations during June. This included the Train crash at Bedford and also a Combine harvester at Duloe but for more detail;

12 mobilisations to fire incidents in Sandy
12 Special Service calls in Sandy involving flooding, access to property or assistance with casualty extrication for East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust or
41 calls to fire or incidents outiside of Sandy's station area
10 calls for our Emergency Medical Responding Teams assisting East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust
14 calls to standby at others stations within Bedfordshire while their crews are attending incidents.

With the dry and hot weather forecast getting even worse over the next week or so, we ask for everyones help in not having BBQs or fires in open spaces where a small rogue ember can have massive consequences, and stay out of any rivers or ponds where hidden currents or cold water shock might hamper any swimming attempt however tempting it may look.

Ron Chamberlain - this is especially for you! :)

Scott Elliott was a firefighter at Sandy for 20 years and left Sandy Fire Station a couple of years ago to focus on his career with London Fire Brigade.
Scott is running this years London Marathon. We wish him well (as he is on the old side and his knees aren't what they used to be), but if anyone would like to donate to his fundraising page, the link is below and it would be great if we can assist him in getting to his total! Good luck Scott!!
