Maybe our local Reform councillor should have been using his social media to promote recycling over Christmas to those who don't usually do it. From the comments a lot of Sawley and Wilsthorpe residents are thinking "What's he on about? Our recycling bin was full last week, [and we put out extra which EBC collected]. But our black bin is barely half full." And some are saying we could get away with monthly black bin collections.

Sawley Black Bin Collections This Week.

Has anybody else got an extra bin bag that won't fit in the bin?

After a 17 day gap between black bin collections in Sawley & Wilsthorpe, Erewash Borough Council are refusing to collect one extra bin bag in the first collection after Christmas.

Instead, residents are being told to make a 12 mile round trip to Ilkeston Tip with a single bag. Surely this contradicts the 'climate emergency' which EBC declared two years ago? Unless that was just empty words?

Extra waste at Christmas is obvious and predictable due to presents, everyone being in the house etc. It used to be standard practice to collect an extra binbag or two in the first collection after Christmas.

It may not be thr biggest issue in the world but residents are right to ask for basic services for the council tax they pay. I’ve formally challenged this decision with the Director of Community Services and asked EBC to show basic common sense and goodwill toward residents.

It is absolute chaos on Hawthorne Avenue this morning. Derbyshire County Council has not lifted restrictions on these roads they are still access only. Cars using them to cut through risk being fined the CT4N number 29 has come through at least twice that we have seen. The official diversion is round via the Eaton Farm Roundabout and back either through Long Eaton (or you could go through Breaston to access Sawley) or the reverse. For Local Residents accessing the Berkeley/Birchwood Hawthorne/Thoresby we recommend planning as far as possible to only travel south down Hawthorne and north up Birchwood to reduce some of the conflict.
