Good evening everyone,

I’ve been contacted about a fantastic community idea at St Andrew’s Church in Dalton-le-Dale, where they are hoping to create a special display of poppies for Remembrance Day.

They are looking to collect as many poppies as possible — knitted, crocheted, paper, plastic, felt, or any other type. Every poppy will help make this a really meaningful tribute to those who served and sacrificed for our country.

As a small parish, they are finding it difficult to get the message out and gather enough donations. I would love to see Seaham and our surrounding communities come together and help make this something really special.

We have seen incredible community projects elsewhere, including the huge poppy installation in Durham, and I believe we can create something equally meaningful here in our own community.

If you have handmade poppies at home, are able to knit or crochet some, or know a school, community group, organisation or individual who could help, please get involved.

Please share this post far and wide so we can reach as many people as possible.

Let’s come together as a community and create a fitting display at St Andrew’s Church in Dalton-le-Dale this Remembrance Day.

Good morning everyone,

I’ve been in contact with Seaham Town Council regarding Parkside Playground following a number of complaints I’ve received from residents.

The concerns have now been raised with the Town Council and are being looked into. I’m hopeful that the issues will be addressed and resolved soon.

I’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation and work with the relevant people to ensure the concerns raised by residents are followed up.

I would like to share this with everyone,

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and I want to take a moment to remind everyone in our community of something very important: you are never alone, and it is always okay to ask for help.

We never truly know what someone may be going through behind closed doors. A person who looks happy, carries on with everyday life and says they are fine may still be struggling inside.

Please take the time to check in on your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. Sometimes a simple conversation, a listening ear or letting someone know that you are there for them can make a real difference.

There should be no shame in talking about mental health or su***de. We need to continue breaking down the stigma and creating communities where people feel safe to speak openly and ask for support.

If you are struggling, please speak to someone you trust or reach out for professional support. You don’t have to face things on your own.

As a councillor, I will continue to support efforts that help improve the wellbeing of people across our community.

Talk. Listen. Support. Save a life.

Please look out for one another, not just during Su***de Prevention Month, but throughout the whole year.

We’ve launched a consultation with residents, businesses, partners and staff to check that our proposed objectives and priorities continue to serve them effectively.

You can engage with the consultation in multiple ways. This includes joining one of our online sessions to hear a presentation about the proposed Council Plan followed by an opportunity to share your views.

Did you know that September is Catch the Bus Month?

🚌Catch the Bus Month is a national campaign that celebrates the contribution buses make to the economy, as well as reducing congestion.

In County Durham, residents and visitors can benefit from a range of discount fares, subsidised by the North East Combined Authority, of which the council is a partner.

These include the £6 Durham Day Rover ticket, which allows people to hop on and off bus services run by any operator in the county on the same day. Young people aged 21 and under can take advantage of Get Round for £1 single fares, as well as £3 day tickets, which allow unlimited travel across the region on a single day.

All single fare for all bus users are capped at £2.50.

Many attractions in the region also offer discounts to visitors who travel by public transport as part of the Car Free Days Out scheme.

Good afternoon everyone,

The gate near Seaham Golf Course has been replaced today following concerns raised by local residents.

It’s another small but important improvement for our local area. I’ll continue to work hard for Dalton and Dawdon and keep pushing to get issues raised by residents addressed.

Thank you to everyone who continues to report issues and bring them to my attention. Your concerns help me understand what matters most in our communities.
