Remember it was the Conservatives that decided to reduce the operating hours of Shepshed Tip to Save £350K. If Shepshed tip was still operating at full capacity would it have needed to close?

🚨 SHEPSHED HAS BEEN LEFT WITHOUT ITS TIP🚨

Shepshed’s tip has now been closed for some time, and residents are still waiting to see meaningful action from those elected to represent them.

When the future of Shepshed tip was previously under threat, Conservatives fought to keep it open.

With Jane Hunt as our Conservative MP, a Conservative County Councillor representing Shepshed, and local Conservatives campaigning alongside residents, we made the case for this important local service.

We fought, and we won. Shepshed tip stayed open.

But since Reform took control of Leicestershire County Council and with a Labour the Member of Parliament, the tip has closed and where has been the campaign to get it reopened?

Where is the pressure on the County Council?

Where is the fight from Shepsheds now former Councillor?

Where is the strong local voice from our Labour MP?

Shepshed deserves better than being forgotten.

Residents need elected representatives who will stand up for the town, fight for its services and make sure Shepshed gets its fair share.

🗳️ There is a by-election coming.

When you cast your vote, remember what happened to Shepshed tip. Remember who fought to keep it open before, and remember the lack of action since.

Shepshed needs a strong voice again.

‼️The Truth about Shepshed Tip.

As Cabinet Lead at the County Council for Environment, Flooding and Waste, I feel we need to make resident’s aware of things.

Fires at three major treatment centres were the reason for the temporary closure, external factors that have affected the whole country.

All MPs were sent the exact details of this, and officers and I appeared on local news and radio explaining the situation. Our staff have worked tirelessly at our waste sites in trying conditions.

All the other MPs in the affected areas informed their residents accordingly without any fuss, because they knew it was a short term measure.

To date, I understand no petition has being submitted to LCC or to me, and the decision to re open was made on Wednesday.

To stop any rumours, Shepshed remains a key part of our waste infrastructure and will NOT be closed.

Apologies once again for any inconvenience.

♻️ REFORM UK IS REOPENING LEICESTERSHIRE’S TIPS.

After temporary closures caused by wider pressures across the national waste sector, dates have now been confirmed for the remaining sites to reopen.

✅ Oadby - Sunday 30 August
✅ Lutterworth - Thursday 3 September
✅ Shepshed - Friday 4 September

Bottesford has already reopened, while Lount returns on Monday with a new Rehome Zone to help give unwanted household items a second life.

Reform UK’s Cabinet Member for Waste, Cllr Adam Tilbury, said:

“Our team has worked as quickly as possible to get to the point where we can reopen these sites for residents to use.”

We said these closures were temporary. We said the sites would reopen when capacity allowed.

Now they are.

‼️ To be clear - Shepshed Tip will be reopened as soon as there is the capacity to do so, this closure has always been a temporary measure.

Shepshed residents deserve the facts and it’s time the local MP stopped the scaremongering.

A personal update about my decision to resign as County Councillor for Shepshed

After a great deal of thought, I have decided to resign from my position as County Councillor for Shepshed.

This hasn’t been an easy decision. It has been an incredible privilege to represent Shepshed, and I’m genuinely proud of what I have achieved. I’ve worked incredibly hard for our community and I’m grateful to everyone who has trusted me to raise issues and make a difference.

When I took on the role, there was already a significant backlog of issues across Shepshed. I’ve spent a lot of my time pushing to get long-standing issues addressed - from the Hathern Road bridge and the wall alongside St Winnie’s, to resurfacing, drains, road sweeping, trees and many other issues residents quite reasonably expect the council to keep on top of.

I’ve often had to chase repeatedly for responses and progress. I completely understand residents’ frustration. We all pay a significant amount in council tax and quite reasonably expect to see this reflected in our communities.

I’m proud that I challenged where things weren’t working and pushed hard for improvements. I leave knowing that I genuinely gave the role everything I had.

But now it’s time for a new chapter. My family is the biggest reason for my decision. I want to spend my evenings with my children whilst they are still little, rather than being in meetings. They are only young once, and I want to make the most of this precious time.

Change is difficult and isn’t always welcomed, but it is necessary. There are improvements to be made, backlogs to clear and we need to move towards working more preventatively rather than constantly reacting to problems.

I have huge respect for my friends at County Hall who are giving up so much of their own time and energy to do this difficult job. I know they will continue to work incredibly hard to make the necessary changes and deliver better outcomes for the people of Leicestershire.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, contacted me and trusted me to represent you.

It has been an honour to serve Shepshed, and I’m incredibly proud of the difference I’ve been able to make. ❤️

‼️Hi Shepshed, I’m really sorry our tip will be closed until the 14th August due to unprecedented demand.

This will help to prevent further disruption, manage pressure and clear the backlog.

In addition to diverting staff resources across the sites, LCC are working hard to recruit more drivers into the service as well as seeking additional local treatment and transfer capacity.

I am sorry for the inconvenience.

*update* the reason Shepshed is closed is due to it being a small site and has the lowest footfall of the three (Loughborough, Coalville, Shepshed).

I'm receiving a lot of queries about traffic improvements along the A512 so I thought it would be best to share this with you.

A roundabout is proposed at the A512 / Tickow Lane / Charley Road junction .

A512 / Charnwood Road / Iveshead Road and A512 / Leicester Road / Ingleberry Road schemes have been developed to further improve capacity as well as incorporating pedestrian and cycle improvements..

The timescales for delivery will be prioritised in line with the receipt of necessary funds and outcomes of the study with regard to capacity improvements, value for money and network management requirements.
