A new market is coming to Southwick! The first Southwick Makers & Bakers event will be on Friday 25th September at Southwick Community Centre.

So, it was an overwhelming vote for Southwick Makers & Bakers!! The market will start on Friday September 25th - 9.30am to 12.30pm in the Porter Room at Southwick Community Centre
If you're a maker or baker and you'd like a stall, it will be £15 for a 4 or 6ft table. There is an initial application form for us to get to know your and your wares.

National Enforcement Solutions (NES) are now enforcing dog exclusion zones and dogs-on-lead areas across Adur and Worthing.

Our enforcement partner will be helping us implement long-standing dog restrictions in parks, play areas and other public spaces, while continuing to tackle littering and the failure to pick up after dogs.

This includes dog exclusion zones, such as children’s play areas and parts of Worthing and Goring beaches during the summer months, as well as dogs-on-lead areas at a number of parks across Adur and Worthing.

These restrictions are not new. Most have been in place for more than a decade. What is changing is that NES officers are now actively enforcing them, so residents and visitors may notice a greater officer presence in these locations.

NES officers can issue £100 Fixed Penalty Notices on our behalf where people fail to comply with the relevant restrictions. Serious or persistent breaches may result in prosecution, with a fine of up to £1,000 and a criminal record. Officers wear uniforms featuring our logo, carry ID badges and use body-worn cameras when interacting with members of the public.

We want to be clear that this isn’t about targeting dogs or responsible dog owners. The enforcement is part of our wider efforts to keep our parks, beaches and public spaces safe, clean and welcoming for everyone.

Do you need help funding a community project in Adur?

Applications for our Connected Communities grant fund will open next month, with funding between £1,000 and £5,000 available for voluntary, community and social enterprise groups based in Adur and Worthing.

Designed to make applications simpler and less time-consuming for community groups, the £115,000 fund has been created by streamlining four of our previous grants into one pot with one application form, one set of funding criteria and a consistent assessment process.

You can find out more about the fund, discuss your projects with us ahead of putting in an application, and build connections with other groups at a series of in-person networking events in Adur this September.

It's Southwick Community Centre's summer fair tomorrow from 10am to 3pm. Loads of activities to get involved with, no matter the weather!

Just a few days to go till our Summer Fair! loads of things to do and see. Why not drop into the Porter room and have a go at Singing at 12.30!! although it maybe raining with have spaces under cover! there will be extra space for sitting with a cake or cream tea in the window room and our games will be under gazebos and marquees. and anyway Southwick, who's afraid of a little water? search for our fairy doors under your umbrellas, we'll still have an amazing time!

These images show how the refurbishment of empty council homes is transforming properties for Adur families to move into.

Work is almost complete on this two-bedroom flat in Grange Court so a family on our housing register can occupy it. Our contractors have fitted a new kitchen and bathroom, replaced the windows, rewired the property and redecorated throughout.

We’re spending up to £2 million refurbishing and improving a large number of our council homes that have fallen empty and which require significant investment before they can be lived in again.

Since we started the project in June, we’ve completed renovations on the first 13 homes in Southwick and are currently working on a further 15.

The first homes being renovated are in Watling Court, Grange Court, Locks Court and Coates Court. Teams are then moving to carry out similar work in Sea House, Rock Close, Albion House, Harbour Court, Wyck Court and Channel View.

In total we aim to bring more than 40 of our empty homes up to a good standard as part of this project, so Adur families in need of somewhere to live can move in.

The amount of work required varies between properties, but some homes need new kitchens and bathrooms as well as upgraded heating and insulation, plus new fans and ventilation systems.

The volunteers at Keep Lancing Lovely do an amazing job for the village, with their numerous litter picks being a key part of it. If you've got some time free this Sunday, they'll be out and about yet again from 10am to 11.30am if you fancy joining them for a community litter pick to the west of Perch on Lancing Beach.

We’re preparing to start the first stage of the work needed to get our Albion Street council homes fit for residents to move into them.

We explained last month that issues of poor design, workmanship and materials under the oversight of the original contractor, Westridge Construction, had left dozens of the 49 new flats in Southwick at risk of serious ongoing damp problems.

This was only discovered after Westridge collapsed and a replacement firm, Cheesmur Building Contractors, was brought in to finish the project.

A significant amount of work is needed before the homes can be occupied, including the replacement of balconies and south-facing brickwork, the treatment of flats for water damage and the redecoration of many of the properties.

The first step is to apply sealant to the sides of the building not facing the sea, to provide better waterproofing for the brickwork. Scaffolding is currently being put in place so that work can begin.

We’re extending the role of our enforcement partner to help keep public spaces across Adur clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.

Last October we began a 12-month trial partnership with National Enforcement Solutions (NES), a specialist enforcement agency working across our coastline, green spaces, town and village centres to help tackle issues such as littering and dog fouling.

Our cleansing teams work hard to keep our public spaces tidy, but we don’t have dedicated officers focused on preventing these problems. NES officers have been regularly dealing with cigarette litter, which can make public spaces look untidy and release harmful chemicals into the environment. Dog fouling also continues to be an issue in some areas.

From September, the team’s enforcement responsibilities will be expanded to include dog exclusion zones, such as children’s play areas, as well as dogs-on-lead areas in parks and other public spaces across the district.

Most of these restrictions have been in place for more than a decade, but residents and visitors may notice a greater officer presence in these locations as part of the partnership.
