Don’t forget about tomorrow’s walk through Sleaford’s fascinating milling history.

Starting at the Handley Monument on Southgate at 10am, the walk explores the lost watermills of Quarrington, Millthorpe and Sleaford, as well as the changing course of the River Slea.

The walk finishes at Cogglesford Watermill at around 12 noon, where the mill will be open and milling especially for the day. You’ll be able to see our millers grinding stoneground flour and find out more about the traditional techniques that have been used for centuries.

You can also stay for a coffee in the cafƩ and pick up some locally milled flour to take home.

Meet at the Handley Monument, Southgate. No booking required. The route is mostly on tarmacked paths and is suitable for adults, children and well-behaved dogs on leads.

Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the ground floor of Cogglesford Watermill?

As a historic building, the mill's upper floors are reached by steep ladders, making some areas difficult to access for many visitors, including wheelchair users. That's why we've created a virtual tour, allowing everyone to explore more of this fascinating building and discover its history from the comfort of home.

If you're visiting us in person, you can also explore the virtual tour on the iPad located on the ground floor.

If you're not visiting on a Milling Day, don't worry - our shop features a video explaining the milling process, so you can see how the mill works while enjoying a relaxing cup of tea, Stokes coffee or tasty Wilcox Bakery LTD treats.

We're delighted to celebrate our fantastic volunteer Trevor, who has been nominated for a BBC Lincolnshire Make a Difference Award.

Trevor is someone who truly cares about his local area and is always willing to roll up his sleeves and help. Alongside his work as a volunteer gardener at Cogglesford Watermill, he regularly takes part in litter picking and is an active member of the River Slea Cleanup Group, helping to keep our local environment clean and welcoming for everyone.

His dedication, enthusiasm and pride in our community make him a valued member of the Mill team, and we couldn't be prouder to see his efforts recognised through this nomination.

Trevor's story shows that making a difference starts with simple actions. Whether it's volunteering, caring for local green spaces, supporting community projects or helping out at a heritage site like Cogglesford Watermill, every contribution helps make our community a better place.

Congratulations, Trevor, on this well-deserved nomination, and thank you for everything you do for the Mill and the wider community.

If you've ever thought about getting involved in your local area, why not take the first step? When people come together and do their bit, amazing things can happen.

Visiting Lincolnshire in September for the 2026 cycle races? Fancy staying and enjoying our beautiful county for a while longer? Here's our team's recommendation for extending your trip:

• Plan a day trip to Navenby, visit the historical Mrs Smith's Cottage and a grab a bite to eat at one of the amazing cafes or pubs in the village. Navenby is easily accessible by car, as well as by the number 1 bus from Lincoln.

• If you're feeling inspired by the , why not plan your own cycle adventure? Bike rack facilities are available at Mrs Smith's Cottage free of charge (don’t forget your lock!).

• Hop down the road from Navenby, down to Cranwell and Sleaford to visit our friends at Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum, Cogglesford Watermill and Navigation House. Tell them we said hello!

• Enjoy a stroll along the beautiful Viking Way. If you don't fancy the full 149 miles, shorter routes still allow you to enjoy the Lincolnshire countryside: https://www.visitlincolnshire.com/things-to-do/viking-way/

🌾 From learning to passing it on…

Jo is training David, who is learning the traditional skills of milling as a new Cogglesford Watermill volunteer. āš™ļø

It's this sharing of knowledge and skills that helps us keep our historic working watermill alive — and we're always looking for people who would like to become part of our volunteer team.

But there's another way to get hands-on with milling…

Our Milling Experience Days are bookable experiences for visitors. They give you the opportunity to discover how the mill works, learn about traditional milling and get a taste of what it's like to be a miller — without becoming a volunteer!

🌾 Fancy trying milling for yourself? Book a Milling Experience Day.

šŸ¤ Fancy becoming part of the team? Ask us about volunteering.

Two different ways to get closer to the fascinating world of traditional milling!
