🎒📚 Wishing Solihull’s children and young people a great year ahead!

As the new academic year begins, we want to wish every child and young person across Solihull the very best for the year ahead.

Whether you’re learning at nursery, school, college, university or at home, we hope the year brings new opportunities, new friendships and plenty of achievements.

And a big thank you to all the teachers, support staff, parents and carers who work so hard to help our young people learn and thrive.

From all of us at Solihull Borough Conservatives, good luck for the new academic year! 💙

🚨 ANOTHER REFORM COUNCILLOR WALKS AWAY

Another Reform councillor in Solihull has resigned from Reform Solihull and will now sit as an Independent.

That’s two Reform councillors who have resigned from the group in just two months.

It raises serious questions about Solihull Reform and its leadership.

Something clearly isn’t working in Reform in Solihull.

🚫 CRACKING DOWN ON ILLEGAL TO***CO & VAPES

Great to see Solihull Council secure a closure order against Boss Mart 2 on Warwick Road, Olton, following the sale of illegal to***co and vapes.

This comes after continued illegal activity and a previous closure order in 2024.

Back in April, Solihull Conservatives took action, bringing a motion to Council calling for stronger enforcement powers, including the ability to stop problem shops simply reopening under a new name.

Our Regulatory Services Team are doing a great job, but they need the right powers to tackle persistent rogue traders.

We’ll keep pressing the Government to give councils the powers they need to shut these businesses down and keep them shut.

🏏 CHARITY CRICKET THIS SUNDAY! 🏏

Come along to Dorridge Cricket Club from 2pm this Sunday for a fantastic afternoon of charity cricket with Saqib Bhatti and Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP

The day is raising funds for the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust, a local charity working to encourage young people to speak up about their mental health and to make sure they know that help and support is available.

It’s an incredibly important cause, and a great opportunity to come together as a community to support their work.

📍 Dorridge Cricket Club
🕑 From 2pm this Sunday

Come along, bring your family and friends, enjoy the cricket and help us support a brilliant cause! 🏏

After such a dry summer, there is likely to be some flash flooding with the rain as the ground is too hard to absorb the water.
If you see any blocked drains or any areas of flooding, you can report blocked gullies etc here: https://www.solihull.gov.uk/roads-pavements-and-streetcare/flooding/report-gully-problem

If the problem with the gully is an emergency please call 0121 704 8004.

Solihull Council is responsible for approximately 36,000 road gullies across our highway network.

SOLIHULL’S FUTURE. SOLIHULL’S VOICE.

Labour is consulting on plans to give the West Midlands Mayor more power over major planning applications; potentially taking decisions away from local communities.

🌳 Protect Solihull’s Green Belt
👥 Keep planning decisions local
🏗️ Build on brownfield sites first
🛑 Don’t make Solihull pay for other areas’ housing needs

Solihull’s housing numbers have already been drastically increased, while Birmingham and Coventry’s have been reduced. We must ensure Solihull’s Green Belt is not destroyed to meet the housing needs of other parts of the West Midlands.

If these powers are given to the Mayor, he must commit to working with local people, protecting our Green Belt and ensuring brownfield sites across the West Midlands are developed first.

Solihull Conservatives are standing up for local residents and local decision-making.

🎉 FAMILY FUN AT ELMWOOD!

Great to pop into the Community Fun Day at Elmwood Family Hub today!

It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying the magic show, music, activities and learning about healthy eating, as well as much more.

Cllr Heather Delaney said: “Events like this are what community is all about, bringing families together, having fun and making sure people know about the fantastic support and activities available locally.”

👏 A big thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success!

🌳 FREE TREES FOR SOLIHULL! 🌳

Conservative-led Solihull is committed to planting more trees and keeping our borough green for generations to come.

That’s why, in partnership with Birmingham Airport, Solihull Council is promoting the Arden Free Tree Scheme.

🌱 If you’re an individual or community group with land in Solihull and would like to create a new hedgerow or small woodland, you could receive free trees to help make it happen.

Together, we can plant for the future and keep Solihull a great place to live, work and enjoy.

📧 Interested? Email [email protected] by Friday 4th September for further details.

🌳 More trees. Greener communities. A greener Solihull.

🏘️ LOCAL PLANNING NEEDS LOCAL VOICES

Labour wants to hand more planning powers to Regional Mayors, taking decisions further away from local councils and the people who know their communities best.

For Solihull, where development pressures are already huge, that’s the wrong approach.

📢 Local people should have the strongest voice over where development goes.

Our MPs Saqib Bhatti and Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst are already making the case against these plans and fighting to ensure Solihull’s voice is heard.

💙 Keep planning local. Keep local voices heard.
