SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT to coincide with Open City London Festival 📣

It is our great honor to announce that art historian and author of 'Women's Work' will be joining us on September 14th at South Norwood Library to talk about their work and host the big reveal of the SE25 community quilt.

Ferren Gipson is an art historian and artist specialising in teasing out the cultural, political, and historical stories behind objects, art, and visual media. Her work frequently explores the ways art and design inform popular culture-and vice versa-and intersect with our everyday lives.
She is the author of Women's Work and The Ultimate Art Museum, and has also written for the Financial Times, World of Interiors, and WePresent. She has previously taught for the Courtauld Institute and SOAS, and delivered numerous talks on art, including a TED Talk and guest lectures for institutions like Tate and the Royal Academy of Art. Within her textile practice, Ferren explores themes of spirituality, materiality, and matrilineal ties through quilting and weaving.

Join us for a day of celebration 14th Sept 2024

12-1pm living library to meet the makers

The Brutalist Library campaign group is a team that volunteers alongside our full-time jobs so we will continue to campaign for a library service that is properly run by professional librarians. We are asking for five or six open days per week, including one weekend day as well as a professionally staffed library accessible to all.

Any questions or suggestions? Get in touch with us, we’re looking forward to hear from you! Your Brutalist Library SE25 team 📚

The busy on a Friday evening . Check out , a popular free event which has attracted previous non library users to enjoy the space and is helping people to grow new skills and tackle loneliness. The outcome will be the production of a ‘story quilt’ rich in local memories which will be hung inside the library itself.
