The Customs House is one of the most iconic venues in South Shields and I am proud that this Reform UK led Council is delivering for this historic location.

Statement regarding former Cllr Alex Clarke

Alex Clarke's comments are something which are categorically unwelcome in Reform UK, and I strongly condemn the words which he used on a podcast. They were no joking matter.

When we were made aware of these comments, Cllr Elsender, the Chief Whip, and I spoke with him and he resigned from Reform UK. He then subsequently resigned as a Councillor for the Harton ward. The people of Harton deserve better, and I can only apologise. We will be putting a strong fight in this ward and will select a hardworking and dedicated candidate to stand up for change.

Cllr Clarke was selected in the same way as each of the other 53 candidates which stood for Reform UK in South Tyneside and he was fully aware of what being a Councillor entailed, indeed he even put himself forward for numerous committees.

I am proud of the hard work and dedication of the remaining 40 Reform UK Councillors in South Tyneside who are delivering real change for the Borough after decades of Labour monopoly.

We are looking at all avenues to ensure that this resignation as a Councillor will not cost the taxpayer.

I will not be commenting further on this matter.

Nigel is right, we need a general election NOW!

Labour have taken areas like South Tyneside for granted for almost a century. The local elections last month proved that the people of our great Borough are fed up with Labour and want change.

I was absolutely delighted to attend the Veterans Breakfast at The Sand Dancer this weekend, and then be at the celebrations of Armed Forces Day 2026 in Bents Park.

Reform UK will always do absolutely everything to support our brave armed forces and veterans. We are proud of the people who have served our country, and will remember those who gave all for our freedom.

✨ Good news for Hebburn! Repair works to the jetty at Hebburn Riverside are set to get underway next week.

Essential maintenance will be carried out, including the replacement of some deteriorated timbers that were identified through a recent structural survey.
This work will help ensure the jetty remains safe and in good condition for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The works are expected to take up to 10 weeks to complete, and we’ll keep the community updated as they progress.
