Autists & their Animals is back and we are looking for contributions!⁣! 🧡🐱🥕

⁣Off the back of the inaugural edition of Autists & their Animals, issue 2 will similarly explore autists’ relationships with animals, as pets, assistance animals, or special interests. Necessarily collaborative, we are currently accepting submissions from fellow autistic people (diagnosed or not) who would like to add their voice to the project. Successful contributions will be selected and printed on an environmentally friendly risograph machine by hand and assembled into an A5 zine by the Grrrl Zine Fair team.

Here’s a bit more information from our founder and director Lu Williams on their inspiration behind the zine:

“I’m Lu, an artist, zine maker, and enthusiastic dog petter. Since training my dog Poly to be an assistance dog, I’ve been able to benefit from her training but also her companionship. While Poly is trained to ground me with pressure therapy and bring me medication, she also helps by reminding me to eat, keep up a routine, get outside, and bring her warmth to the world when I’m feeling low.

Although Poly’s had special training to become a medical assistance dog, autistic people often have especially strong bonds with family dogs and all kinds of other pets. This zine is going to celebrate that.”

Contributions 📙
We are looking for autistic people of all kinds who are willing to share whatever inspires them about their animal. For humans, you can use your real name, just a first name, or a pseudonym. For your animal, we’d love to publish their name and species alongside your submission.

🗓️ Deadline: 22 May 2026. Please complete the google form linked on our Instagram to submit!

You’ll hear back from us by 26 June 🐹

Zine lovers- I need your help! This year we are taking a break from putting on a zine fair, last Septembers 2 day festival was part of a year long arts council funded programme, which included commissioning 16 new zines, a zine exhibition, running two zine artist residencies and hosting monthly open days- so we’re taking a little break while we evaluate, do all our arts council reporting and hopefully start to write a bid for a zine fest next year 🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏

In the meantime, we’d love to hear what you’d to see from us! I’ve been itching to publish a new zine, Grrrl In Print Issue 6?? Autists & Their Animals 2?? something else? I’ve also been enjoying the zine library open days and getting back into zine workshop hosting 🥰📝

Tell us what you’d like to see! vote and tell us why in the comments 🫶

This IWD you should totally deep dive into our online zine portal, where we commissioned 16 artists to create new zines - from girl games and care mechanics to camaraderie in stR1p clu3s and nighttime safety.

These zines are so special to me, each artist was given the freedom to make a zine they really wanted to put out in the world, and paid for their time. I’m so happy could build such a beautiful home for them.

Head to Grrrlzinefair.com > Our Zine Portal to see all the works 🎀📝
