The Southport Conservatives have been desperately attacking us with any headline, just so they can pretend they are the "serious" and "sensible" right wing option for Southport.

The Conservatives, for the first time in British history, have ZERO councillors in both Southport and Sefton.

They circulated this same two-year-old graphic in the 2026 local elections, and continue to post it even after the local elections.

In the 2026 local elections, the Conservatives received just 8% of the vote across Sefton, whilst Reform received 27% of the vote. 14 years of betrayal in government has destroyed the Conservatives, and no amount of words will reverse the actions they made in destroying our country.

Our Norwood councillors are hosting a community skip tomorrow, 8th September, on the junction between Montgomery Ave and Russell Road, between 8am-12pm. Local residents with any extra rubbish are encouraged to come along. The skip will be taken away when it's full.

We delivered 200 leaflets to the local residents and we hope this Facebook post will help get the word out more. Special thanks to Cllr Mike Ryder in Birkdale for helping to deliver leaflets and taking the photograph.

Statement from Cllr John Costello:

As a veteran myself, I had the honour to be invited to the Southport Veterans Group last Wednesday. They meet every Wednesday in Wetherspoons at 09:30 for breakfast. They go on trips and also look after veterans' accommodation at Altcar.

Come along if you are a veteran, all ages are welcome. Have a chat with like-minded people and feel the brotherhood and sisterhood again. If there are any veterans out there that I can help, please get in touch: [email protected]

Tax-free personal allowance has been frozen at £12,570 since 2021 by both the Conservatives and Labour. Reform UK will raise it to £15,000.

This change will save the average basic-rate taxpayer around £500 per year, and will take 2.9 million people out of income tax altogether. This will be the biggest increase in the personal allowance in its history.

We will finance this change by scrapping net zero, slashing foreign aid, reducing welfare, and streamlining the civil service.

Our Shadow Chancellor, Robert Jenrick, has pledged that if elected to government, he will resign as Chancellor if he does not deliver this change within the first 100 days.

Councillor Mike Ryder in Birkdale is keeping busy with reporting issues to Sefton.

The street light with exposed wiring has been reported to Sefton's emergency line, we hope it'll be repaired quickly for safety and to reduce any further damage.

Mike also reported a blocked drain on Grantham Road, which we hope will be cleared before any more heavy rainfall.

Ann Cobham from the Botanic Gardens Community Association had a great interview with the BBC on North West Tonight yesterday.

I urge everybody to watch and share this amongst family and friends. Labour Sefton needs to listen to the concerns and opinions of Southport and reverse their decision on closing the aviary.

There needs to be a greater focus on caring for our heritage, not stripping it away. We are slowly losing everything that makes our town unique, and we must resist it.

Our four councillors are strongly in support of the aviary and voted cross-party to save it at the last council meeting. We will continue to fight alongside the residents to keep it open at every opportunity.

After having received complaints and concerns from residents on Pine Grove regarding overgrown foliage, our Norwood ward councillors contacted Network Rail, as the foliage was growing from their land on to the road.

Today, Network Rail cut back the overgrown foliage and we thank them for their co-operation.

Labour-led Sefton Council are adamant on closing the aviary. Labour MP Patrick Hurley's attempt to save the aviary appears to have been unsuccessful. Labour Sefton councillors won't even compromise to support their own party's MP.

The harsh truth about the aviary is that it would require a majority of councillors within Sefton to overturn their decision. The Labour council have no care towards the people of Southport.

The petitions to save the aviary reached 15,000 signatures and Labour will still not budge. Our only option is to kick Labour out of majority in the next May elections.

Latest Position Statement from Sefton Council: Botanic Gardens Aviary, Southport (13/08/2026)

- We continue to move forward with closure of the Aviary

- We have received backing and support from animal welfare experts from across the world for this decision

- Previous attempts to find groups to take over management proved unsuccessful.

Burnham held an emergency COBRA meeting today due to the heat and dry weather. The outcome? Shops must stop selling disposable barbecues.

We are not a serious country anymore.
