“”We have vowed to continue a crackdown on antisocial behaviour – including implementing extra high-visibility patrols to deter criminality and identify offenders – after successfully using disposal orders to tackle issues in Beeston town centre.
Dispersal orders give our officers temporary powers to move people out of the area, regardless of whether an offence has been committed.
An order was implemented on Tuesday 25 August and further orders were put in place between Friday and Monday following reports of violence, robbery, public order incidents and antisocial behaviour involving groups of youths.
During these deployments, three Section 35 notices - which give us additional powers to move people away from an area and take further action if they return - were issued and cannabis was seized from one youth, who will be dealt with in due course by way of voluntary attendance.
Inspector Usha Madaraa, our District Commander, said: "Antisocial behaviour incidents and youth-related disorder significantly reduced while the dispersal orders were in place, demonstrating the effectiveness of this tactic in preventing escalation and providing reassurance to residents, visitors and businesses.
“We take all reports of antisocial behaviour and associated criminality extremely seriously and, while these orders have now come to an end, we will use every opportunity to further strengthen our policing response through robust enforcement, increased proactive activity and the pursuit of positive outcomes where offences are identified.
"I appreciate some community concerns remain regarding violence, robbery and repeat offending within the town centre and a perceived lack of police presence in Beeston.
"I want to reassure people that continued high-visibility patrols, supported by Knife Crime Concentration Fund-funded overtime and increased staffing, will be utilised to provide greater opportunities to identify offenders, make arrests where appropriate and build prosecution files."
She added: "Our patrol activity, engagement and enforcement have remained focused on identified hotspots, increasing police visibility, providing reassurance and addressing youth-related disorder, ASB and weapons concerns.
"Strong partnership working has also enabled early intervention and safeguarding of vulnerable young people at risk of exploitation, violence and knife-related offending.
"A recent safeguarding intervention involving a juvenile found carrying a knife resulted in Children's Social Care relocating the individual away from Nottingham, significantly reducing the risk of serious harm and demonstrating the positive impact of multi-agency working.
"Ongoing intelligence-led deployments, partnership working and safeguarding activity will remain essential to maintain recent improvements, increase public confidence and prevent escalation into more serious offending.
“I want to be clear. There is no place for antisocial behaviour in Beeston.
“Our officers will continue to take robust action against anyone found to be causing problems for others, with the aim of preventing further offences from occurring, and we will be working closely with our council partners to ensure people feel safe and those who ignore warnings about their antisocial behaviour are dealt with appropriately.”
