Following relentless lobbying and campaigning from Liberal Democrats at East Hampshire District Council, trees will be planted in Petersfield central car park.

These will be replacing ones that had previously been removed and will help improve the tree coverage in the town.

These trees will help absorb carbon and lower the temperature in the town centre.

Just another example of Liberal Democrats WORKING FOR YOU and being A Force for Good in our communities.

VOTE CONSERVATIVE & GET REFORM IN HAMPSHIRE

Now that the dust has settled at Hampshire County Council, the situation is clear.

Hampshire Conservatives and Reform have put together a worrying team. After supporting the Conservatives to remain in leadership Reform have been handed control of most major Committees.

This now includes the Members Conduct advisory panel. ReformUK will be in charge on monitoring the conduct of members at HCC.

This is beyond imagination from a party so badly and repeatedly exposed for racism, misogyny and high profile investigations into corruption.

Hampshire Liberal Democrats will continue their work holding this new Conservative-Reform alliance to account.

This weekend saw the return of the Petersfield Spring Festival!

An amazing community run event in the centre of Petersfield’s historic market square.

Incredible way to celebrate the bank holiday weekend supporting local businesses, music, charities and community groups.

I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did!

On the 21st of May, I had the pleasure of attending the Petersfield screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing.

It was a powerful and sobering short film, bringing together testimony from leading scientists, military experts and economic voices.

Their message was clear: the risks we face from the climate and nature crises are real, urgent, and impossible to ignore.

That is why it is so worrying to see the Conservative Party retreating from its commitment to Net Zero. At precisely the moment when we need serious leadership, we are seeing delay, division and denial.

I would strongly encourage anyone who can to go and see the film.

There is another local screening in Alton at HSDC Alton College on 19 June. Please do go along if you are able. Details here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/altonclimateactionnetwork/2172853

After a campaign run to supposedly “Stop Reform in Hampshire”, Conservatives have immediately stitched up Hampshire voters by forming a pact with Reform to take control of the county council where they only have 1 more Cllr than the Liberal Democrats.

This is a direct betrayal by the Conservatives and shows the lengths they will go to, to cling on to power. Here in East Hampshire, a Reform run council is the last thing people wanted. Many will be bitterly disappointed and wary of future promises by this administration and the Conservatives in particular.

The 26 strong Liberal Democrat Hampshire County Council group (including East Hampshire’s county councillors David Podger & Cllr Emily Young) have already seen Conservatives accede to Reform’s demand on allocating funds to a legal challenge to Local Government Reorganisation here. Money that could have been spent on desperately needed road repairs – and which the Conservatives promised they would prioritise in their campaign pledges.

26 Liberal Democrats were democratically elected to represent their residents. We will continue to hold the Tories, Reform, and the Greens (who sat on their hands and let this pact go through) to account. We will continue to fight for our communities and to respect voters’ wishes. We look forward with trepidation to see how this ‘special relationship’ develops.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to continuing our work on behalf of all of the people of East Hampshire. Please sign up for updates at: www.ehlibdems.org.uk/email-sign-up

East Hampshire Liberal Democrats have a lot to celebrate. As we gathered for Annual Council on May 14th, we are pleased to be serving you for another year as district councillors, also two of our members were elected on to the county council; Cllr Emily Young for Alton Town and Cllr David Podger for Petersfield Butser.

After three years as leader of the East Hampshire Liberal Democrats, Cllr Elaine Woodard has stepped down to become the deputy leader while Cllr Emily Young has taken on the role as leader.

We are continuing our scrutiny of the council’s planning and waste collection policies as well as keeping the pressure on environmental issues that affect our region. Our councillor grants are already being requested and delivered to local groups.

At council, the main topic for discussion was the Local Government Review and how it will impact on residents. We will be involved in the working parties in this period of transition towards the Unitary Council formation in 2028.

Last weeks local elections saw a clear message from voters across East Hampshire.

They are backing positive change and a force for good in their communities, their services and who represents that change.

We will continue to work hard and live up to the support we have been given by the electorate.

Conservative run EHDC is backing away from their responsibility to supply a local plan, again.

Meanwhile Liberal Democrat run councils have been putting forward their local plans despite Local Government Reorganisation.

Cllr Emily Young rightly puts the case forward about how this will negatively impact many communities across East Hampshire.
