🚨 **BREAKING: New Solar-Powered Appliance Trialled in Tyndrum** β˜€οΈπŸ”₯

After years of innovation (and a few cups of tea), the crew have officially unveiled our latest eco-friendly upgrade…

Introducing the **Solar Response Unit** πŸŒžπŸš’

βœ”οΈ Runs entirely on Highland sunshine
βœ”οΈ Zero emissions (apart from the occasional bacon roll)
βœ”οΈ Guaranteed to respond quickly… *as long as it’s not cloudy*

Early tests show performance drops slightly between October and March, but we’re confident a good spell of weather will sort that out.

Watch this space for our next upgrade: wind-powered hose reels πŸ’¨

πŸš’πŸ’§ Training Close to Home - Pulling from Open Water πŸ’§πŸš’

If you live rurally, have you ever thought about where your nearest water supply would come from in an emergency? Let us know in the comments ⬇️

Following last week’s joint session with the crew from Killin Fire Station, we held our own training evening with an idea from our crew.

Because of our remote location, we often have to think differently when it comes to water supplies. There aren’t always hydrants nearby - so we need to be confident getting water from natural sources.

This week we headed down to the River Fillan just outside Tyndrum, where the crew:

πŸ’¦ Used our Light Portable Pump (LPP) to pull water from the river
πŸͺœ Built a temporary dam using ladders and a tarpaulin
🏞️ Created a portable reservoir to supply water back to the appliance
🚿 Practised setting up and maintaining a sustainable water shuttle system

It was a fantastic hands-on session with plenty of learning opportunities and some great ideas shared across the team. Training like this helps ensure we're ready for the unique challenges we face in our area.

πŸ‘ Brilliant effort from everyone involved - great to see skills developing and teamwork strengthening.

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Joint Training Night with Killin πŸ”₯πŸš’

On Thursday evening, our team from Tyndrum Fire Station joined colleagues from Killin Fire Station for a valuable training session at The McLaren Hall in Killin.

The session focused on developing and refreshing key operational skills, including:

🧯 Breathing Apparatus (BA) set procedures
πŸͺ’ Laying and managing guidelines
🚿 Attaching branch lines
πŸ”— Practising correct tying-off techniques
➑️ Safe and effective procedures for teams passing guidelines

Training together like this strengthens teamwork, consistency and communication between stations, all of which are vital when we respond to incidents across our shared area.

A great learning opportunity and excellent collaboration between crews πŸ’ͺ

πŸš’ A Busy Christmas for Tyndrum Fire Station πŸŽ„

After what had been a quiet month for the crew at Tyndrum Fire Station, we responded to four call outs over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Our first call came at 13.00 on Christmas Eve, assisting the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Later that evening, at 19:43, we were paged to make up extra crews at an incident in Connel, near Oban. With clear roads, we caught up with our colleagues from Inveraray around 30 minutes later, then whilst we were near Fearnoch both crews were stood down and returned to base, with our team back in their respective homes around 21:15.

After settling down and starting the usual Christmas preparations with our families, the crew were paged once again at 23:30, returning to assist at the incident in Connel. We monitored the scene for a period of time, ensuring there were no further flare-ups. The crew eventually returned home around 04:45 with some of the team fairly sure they spotted Santa Claus on the way home (or perhaps they were just very tired and napping in the back seats…)

Following a few hours' sleep, early morning wake-up calls from excited children, sofa naps, and family dinners, the team were paged again at 20:41 on Christmas Day to attend a fire in a roof structure. We were joined by Killin Fire Station, and after ensuring there were no further issues at the incident, we returned to station by 22:04, where we refilled the appliance with water ready for any further action.

It's been a busy couple of days for the team, but we'd like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas, and to say thank you for all the support throughout the year.

πŸš’ Tyndrum Fire Service Call OutπŸš’

It's been a fairly quiet month for the crew at Tyndrum Fire Station, however this afternoon we were paged at 12:54 to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service.

This was our view from the cab on the journey back to station. The appliance was refuelled and the crew were ready again by 2pm should any further calls come in.

As always, thank you for the continued support from the local community. MERRY CHRISTMAS

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Run the Runway : WE DID ITπŸ”₯πŸš’

We did it!! πŸ’ͺ
Our crew took on Run the Runway at Oban Airport last night - 5K in our fire kit and we're thrilled to say we've raised an incredible Β£2,370 for The Fire Fighters Charity! πŸ™ŒπŸ’›

It was sweaty, windy, and loads of fun, and we’re so proud to have done it as a team.

Huge thanks to the event organisers and the amazing Oban (and airport) Fire Crew for making us feel so welcome on the night, it was greatly appreciated, what a fantastic event! πŸ‘

Here's how it all went down:
πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Keegan : once we took the reins off him, he flew! The clear winner of our crew.
πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Jim : our seasoned runner (and Watch Commander) hot on his heels.
πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Joash & Robert : strong finishes, both well under 40 minutes!
πŸ˜… Craig : managed cramp in both calves within the first 100 metres… but with a bit of help from Jim and a few stretch stops, still crossed the line in 44 minutes, not bad going at all!

A massive thank you to everyone who's supported us along the way - from individual donations to our amazing local businesses who know and understand the importance of a local retained Fire Crew. You've helped us smash our target (from an original Β£500!) and raise vital funds for a charity that supports firefighters and their families across the UK. πŸ’›

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Run the Runway - It's Happening Tomorrow Night! πŸ”₯πŸš’

Friday evening, our crew will be taking on Run the Runway at Oban Airport, running 5km in fire kit (yes… the heavy, sweaty, not-built-for-running kind πŸ˜…) all in support of Fire Fighters Charity.

We're sitting at an incredible Β£2,280 raised so far : way beyond our original Β£500 target, and we can't thank everyone enough for your amazing generosity and encouragement along the way. πŸ™ŒπŸ’›

As for training… well, let's just say most of us are going for the β€œtactical taper” approach. Apart from our boss, Jim, who's been out running 15Ks like it's nothing! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’¨ The rest of us? We'll be giving it everything we've got when those runway lights come on!

Every donation big or small makes a huge difference to The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports firefighters and their families across the UK.

πŸ‘‰ If you'd like to give us one last boost before the big run, you can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/tyndrum
That business in Tyndrum - we're looking at you..... ;)

Thank you for all the incredible support so far, we'll do the running (and the sweating)… you just keep cheering us on! πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Run the Runway – You Did It! πŸ”₯πŸš’

We are absolutely over the moon - thanks to all your incredible support, we've now raised Β£2,230 for The Fire Fighters Charity! πŸ™ŒπŸ’›

What started as a small Β£500 target has grown far beyond anything we imagined, and it's all down to the amazing generosity of our local community, friends, family, and businesses.

Your donations will help Fire Fighters Charity continue their vital work supporting firefighters and their families across the UK from mental health support to physical rehabilitation and wellbeing.

We're just days away from tackling 5K at Oban Airport in our fire kit (yes… the heavy, sweaty kind πŸ₯΅), and every single penny raised will keep us going when the legs start to burn!

From all of us at the station - thank you for standing behind your local on-call crew. ❀️

πŸš’ It's Friday and just one week to go until our 5km Run! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ
It's going to be hot, sweaty, and.. if it rains… even heavier! 🌧️

We're absolutely blown away by the support so far.
We’re now so close to hitting Β£2,000 raised, which is FOUR TIMES our original target! πŸ™Œ

This amazing effort is all in aid of Fire Fighters Charity, supporting firefighters and their families across the UK, and we couldn't be proud of our Tyndrum Fire Station team taking part ❀️

We'd love that final push to get us over the line! πŸ’ͺ
