It's ! August's window feature is the great east window, also known as the Cowane window.

It was installed in 1870 and created by the Edinburgh stained glass studio Ballantine and Son. The window is dedicated to John Cowane (1570-1633), a local merchant and philanthropist who founded the hospital building next to the church. The window depicts a number of scenes including the Sermon on the Mount, and the Last Supper. Ballantine and Son was a leading force in the revival of stained glass in Scotland, seen during the 19th century. The studio began in the mid 1830s (then known as Ballantine and Allan) and closed in 1940. It is characteristic of the period, featuring gothic canopies, and vibrant blues and reds seen in medieval glass.

Please note that the church will be closing at the earlier time of 1pm today (Sat Aug 8th). All are welcome at tomorrow's 11am service, the church will remain open from 12pm for normal visiting.
