Stromness Lifeboat - Violet Dorothy and Kathleen - provided a courtesy es**rt into Stromness Harbour for three yachts yesterday. The boats are circumnavigating Britain, starting and finishing in Falmouth, in support of the Invictus Games to be held in Birmingham in 2027. Our visitors are here until Sunday before setting off on their next leg to Stornoway. I'm sure they'd appreciate a chat if you're down at the harbour.

Meet Victoria Hannay, from Cumbria. A year ago she slipped and broke her leg on Rackwick Beach whilst on holiday in Orkney. "The Stromness RNLI crew rescued me," she said, "they reassured me, held my hand, kept me talking, warmed me up and gave pain relief. Then, in blistering heat, carried me miles to a land ambulance. Volunteers who dropped everything to help me, a stranger - I'll never forget them." Victoria is seen here in yellow wellies on Day 4 of her May Day Challenge for RNLI.

Anyone fancy doing some exercise, and helping the lifeboat at the same time? Our MAYDAY challenge is to cover a-mile-a-day-during-the-month-May (MAYDAY, geddit?). You can run, walk, jog, cycle or whatever you fancy. The snazzy T-shirt is available but you don't really need any special kit. Just get out there and collect a bit of sponsorship for RNLI. It'll make you feel virtuous - in more ways than one.
