Community in action.

Two years ago, in the aftermath of the horrific riots we experienced in our city, we saw the true spirit of Sunderland when the community came together the morning after to chip in and clean up.

In that same spirit I’m organising a community clean up this at 10am this Sunday. If you would like to join us, please meet at outside of the Back On The Map Library, 67 Toward Rd, Hendon SR2 8JG.

This is the Labour Party delivering for Sunderland

Culture House opens on **Saturday 12 September 2026** bringing a world-class library, exhibitions, immersive experiences, creative technology and a fantastic new space for everyone to enjoy.

Labour had the vision to make this happen. Seeing that vision become a reality is something our city should celebrate.

But at the site visit, where it is a councillor's job to ask questions and see how taxpayers' money is being spent, Reform councillors on the Economic Prosperity Scrutiny Committee didn't turn up.

It's easy to criticise from the sidelines. Delivering for Sunderland takes work.

This is what investment in our city looks like. See you at the opening on 12 September!

As Sunderland’s Labour councillors, we’re proud to celebrate the opening of the new Sunderland Specialist Eye Hospital: a landmark investment in our city, our NHS, and the health of people across Sunderland and the wider North East.
The Eye Emergency Department opens at 2pm on Saturday 11 July, with other services moving across by Thursday 23 July. This new, modern city-centre facility will provide specialist care, with better access for patients and the facilities our brilliant NHS staff deserve.
Labour’s commitment to securing investment, protecting public services, and standing up for communities across Sunderland remains as strong as ever.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen.
We will continue to champion investment that builds a healthier, stronger Sunderland.
