If you drive and have a car, you know the importance of checking your car before long journeys as well as of taking it for an annual MOT.
If you think of your body in the same way, as a car, it easily becomes more natural to consider:
- The type of fuel you put in your car.
- Keeping the water level optimal (avoiding dehydration).
- Checking how your car (body!) is running on a regular basis via blood tests.
If you feel unwell, don't take risks with your health.
Ask for a medical MOT.
Vitamin and hormonal checks such as folate, ferritin, TSH, vitamin D, B12 may reveal underlying causes of tiredness or susceptibility to infection and some of these deficiencies may also contribute to poor mental health.
Ask your GP for bloodwork to be carried out and familiarise yourself with the workings of your body:
Go through the results yourself.
And remember:
Low or high normal is not optimal.
Make lifechange changes before anything becomes critical.
Help your GP look after you 💗

In this country, we are conditioned to soldier on.
But if you have a high temperature or an irregular heartbeat or feel more confused than normal, don't be a hero. Call 111 straight away.

And you might not think you have a weakened immune systm but many people have underlying health conditions without knowing it, until bloodwork requested for some other reason shows something is up.
Get an MOT.
Eat less sugar.
Check your vitamin D, ferritin, B12 and folate levels checked.
Avoid processed foods (high in bad salt and saturated fat).
Don't give sepsis a chance.
Look after you 💗

As you can see, I didn't realise this interview was going to be a video interview 😆

But if you watch it (and ignore my crazy-gal hairstyle 🤪) you can find out more about why I like being an independent carer alongside the bank work I do for Staywell's team and what my hopes are for .

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

My visit to Kingston Carers' Network's Tea & Toast this morning, a monthly event in Tolworth I have been trying to attend for over a year, was timely and meaningful.
Thank you KCN for providing support and a safe space for those caring for loved ones ♥️

Whether you love it or hate it (the weather OR The Fast Show), please remember these useful tips for surviving the climbing temperatures:
- Avoid the sun in the hottest part of the day (there's a reason why people get up early to cook in hot countries!).
- Keep your curtains, blinds and windows CLOSED. If the air temperature is warmer outside than it is inside, opening the window might seem like a good idea but it WILL make your home hotter.
- Keep up your CLEAR liquid intake. And that doesn't include vodka and gin! Tea and coffee are diuretics as they contain caffeine. Stick to water, or VERY diluted fruit juice (use it like squash) or herbal teas. Squash can contain lots of nasties which are hard on the kidneys so not good for anyone with kidney problems.
- Rest if you can.
- Use sunscreen.
- Keep your head covered.
- Drink from a water bottle with time indicators down the side to help you keep drinking a little throughout the day as we lose the ability to feel thirsty as we age.
AND
To help avoid urine infections, try to empty your bladder well when you go for a wee!
You can do this by not rushing, focusing on what you are doing and, if necessary, getting up and sitting back down. Feet should be firmly planted on the floor. Men, especially older gents, will find it easier to empty their bladders whilst seated (no one's watching!).
Have a happy, safe and sunny weekend 🌞
