Do you know a veteran who loves gardening, swapping seasonal tips, or simply spending time outdoors? Whether they enjoy growing vegetables, caring for flowers, or taking pride in a well‑kept garden, Old Comrades offers a place to connect with others who share that same passion 🌿

With the Chelsea Flower Show just around the corner, the spotlight on the importance of gardening for mental wellbeing is brighter than ever. Spending time in nature, nurturing plants, and sharing knowledge with others can offer a real sense of calm, purpose, and connection; something many veterans value deeply.

The Old Comrades online community is a veterans‑only space where former service personnel can share experiences, exchange advice, and build new connections in a welcoming and familiar environment. With groups dedicated to a wide range of interests, including gardening, it is easy to find like‑minded people and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from meeting others with shared backgrounds and hobbies.

As the Chelsea Flower Show arrives next week, we are reminded how powerful gardens can be. They bring people together, create moments of calm, and offer a sense of purpose that can make a real difference to wellbeing. At the Royal Hospital Chelsea, this is something we see every day in the lives of our Chelsea Pensioners 🌿🌸

For Jim, gardening has become a source of joy, structure and connection. After arriving at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, he found a community that encouraged him, supported him and helped him rediscover the things he loves. Working in the gardens has played a meaningful part in that journey.

'If I had never come to the Royal Hospital Chelsea, I would not be here today. It is the best thing I have ever done.'

Our mission is to provide a home filled with dignity, companionship and purpose for the Chelsea Pensioners who live here, while also offering meaningful support to the wider veteran community. Stories like Jim’s show why this work matters, and how your support helps us continue creating spaces where veterans can feel valued, connected and able to thrive 👏❤️

As we look ahead to the Chelsea Flower Show, we are celebrating the healing power of green spaces and the remarkable veterans who tend them.
