Today we celebrate St David’s Day.

For the Welsh Guards, it means more than just wearing the leek. It’s a reminder of where we come from, and who we represent.

Formed in 1915 by order of King George V, the Welsh Guards were raised to complete the line of Foot Guards regiments. Since then, Welshmen have served with distinction in every major conflict of the last century. From the trenches of the First World War to Normandy, from Korea to more recent operations across the globe, the Regiment has carried the spirit of Wales wherever it has been called.

St David, the patron saint of Wales, preached humility, resilience and quiet strength. His words, “Gwnewch y pethau bychain”, do the little things, still resonate today. In soldiering, it is often the small things done well, every day, that build trust, discipline and excellence.

For the people of Wales, St David’s Day is a celebration of culture, language and pride. For the Welsh Guards, it is also a celebration of service. We stand as a link between the nation and the Crown, carrying Welsh identity onto the world stage while remaining rooted in the communities that shaped us.

Today we honour our history, our serving Guardsmen, our veterans, and the people of Wales who continue to support us.

Happy St David’s Day.
