Parents and Carers: Thursday Youth Activities at Broadgreen

Every Thursday we have 2 free youth sessions available at Broadgreen as part of our efforts to create stronger communities and provide more for residents.

First we have the Play Sessions
4:30 - 5:30 | Broadgreen Community Centre | Main Hall

Then immediately after that we have the Youth Space
5:30 - 7 | Broadgreen Community Centre | Play Area Club Room
Sessions for children aged 11+.

Continuing every Thursday.
Part of our work to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Our Grounds and Gardening Teams cleared the fallen silver birch at Queens Park

A large silver birch fell at Queen’s Park yesterday, blocking the pathway near the Durham Street entrance. We temporarily closed the gate for residents’ safety while our teams cleared the area and cut the birch up with a chainsaw. Other teams were down quickly to help. We even had Town Gardens Head Gardener using the second chainsaw. The tree was removed and the entrance was back open the same day. The teams finished tidying up the area today.

Well done to the team for jumping into action and getting it cleared so quickly. Great work to everyone involved. Great example of our teams working together to keep our parks safe and accessible for residents!

GWR Park Winter Bedding featuring the Town Gardens Gardening Team

Our Town Gardens team took a trip down to GWR Park yesterday to help plant the winter bedding. They planted 300 plants and bulbs in total, an even mix of hyacinths and violas. These beds will bring some lovely colour to the parks in the darker months and will last until spring flowering. Winter bed planting season is well underway at all of the parks we manage in South Swindon. Make sure you take a visit and enjoy the greenery.

Notice: Queen's Park, Durham Street entrance is temporarily closed. A silver birch has fallen, blocking the path. The entrance is locked to keep residents safe while our grounds team work to clear the walkway.
Residents, please use the Memorial Gates entrance for the time being instead.

Yesterday we held a Corporate Volunteer Day at Broome Manor Allotments

Nationwide employees offered their time to give back to the local area. Nationwide reached out to us and we coordinated the event. We manage 16 allotment sites throughout South Swindon, and we chose Broome Manor as yesterday's site.

The volunteers worked with our Community Development Department to clear walkways and paths by trimming back hedges, weeding, and cutting grass, making the area more accessible for allotment holders. By the end of the day they'd cleared over 2 van-loads of green waste!

Huge thank you and great job to everyone who volunteered. Building strong communities and improving South Swindon are two of our main aims as a parish council.

We’re looking for a Grounds Street Cleaning Operative to help look after South Swindon’s parks, play areas, open spaces and streets.
