This week, we raised the Refugee Week flag, recognising the contributions refugees make to our communities and reaffirming our commitment to supporting inclusion throughout the year.

Taunton Town Council continues to work in partnership with CHARISrefugees, Thrive Somerset and Taunton Welcomes Refugees to help refugees settle and thrive in Taunton. This year’s Shared Roots project has included a community food share event at Taunton Brewhouse alongside music and creative activities, followed by a programme of community sessions including yoga, tai chi, and many other activities.

Alongside this work, the Council has also provided financial support to a range of local projects that support refugee integration, wellbeing, and community participation across Taunton.

✨ Introducing the Mayor’s Chaplain - The Reverend Prebendary Adrian Prior-Sankey MBE ✨

We are pleased to introduce the Mayor’s Chaplain, a personal, honorary appointment made by the Mayor and formally announced at the Annual Meeting of Council. During their term, the Chaplain is entrusted with a special civic role and is recognised by the ceremonial scarf they wear.

The Mayor’s Chaplain provides spiritual guidance and support to the Mayor, helping to uphold the dignity and traditions of our civic life. They lead prayers at public events and the Mayor Making ceremony when required and play an important part in civic services and key activities throughout the year.

From the Dedication of the Field of Remembrance and Armistice Day to Remembrance Sunday and Carols Around the Bandstand, the Chaplain supports and often officiates at moments that bring our community together in reflection and unity.

We appreciate their contribution to our town’s civic life and thank them for their service. 💙
