When a fire occurs in confined spaces with little ventilation, there can be a risk of a hazardous Backdraught situation 🙁 .Signs of a potential Backdraught can be observed very quickly. Flammable gasses accumulate in the room and excess pressure builds up that pushes against wall, windows and doors, (another reason door closers need to work properly and to latch properly,) forcing smoke out around the edges and under the sill, this causes a momentary vacum that in turn sucks the smoke back in with some oxygen to continue the cycle, like you probably saw in the film Backdraught 🙂 hence, a Puffing effect around and under the door, plus there will exist a very hot handle, with sounds of creaking, 😕 these are the signs of an impending Backdraught 😢 . Should a door be opened, kicked in, windows explode/implode, and allow an inrush of oxygen, this mixes with the previously accumulated unburnt gasses filling the room, thick rolling smoke ejects from the room until the mix becomes right and the gasses ignite simultaneously, as in they Explode all at once with enough force to knock walls down, throw objects that could decapitate Firefighters, blow doors off their hinges and windows out of their frames, 🙁 SO ! A Backdraught is a violent Smoke Explosion 🙁 have a look at the video below of some Backdraught examples, not to be confused with Flashover or rollover, described as When a fire in a room becomes a room on fire)
