This male soprano pipistrelle had no hesitation taking off when returned to Glenrothes last night. He’d been trapped in an office over a weekend and got too weak to fly. After gaining weight from mealworm feeds for a few days he was good to go. Thanks to the Ferguson Vet Clinic for taking him in then contacting me.

Hessilhead Wildlife Centre are fundraising to build a new bat flight enclosure, an important resource for giving hand-reared bat pups flight experience prior to release. Bat carers from different areas take young bats to Hessilhead for this experience.

Another bat keen to take off when returned home. This male soprano pipistrelle was a late season pup from last year who probably didn’t put on enough weight before hibernation. After gaining enough weight he was released last night at Dunfermline Abbey. Thanks to Hayley for meeting me half way with him when he was found.

Didn’t catch the take off moment of this soprano pipistrelle who had a 36% increase in weight after coming in underweight. There have been a number of late season pups from last year who maybe just didn’t manage to put on enough weight before hibernation. After gaining weight they’re ready to go.

Yesterday we carried out a check of the bat boxes in the Letham Glen, Leven bat house. No bats, just a probable brown long-eared bat dropping. Followed by our AGM & lunch at the Pitlessie Inn.
