Have you made your pledge?

South East Water are challenging Binsted village to reduce our water use this summer. If the village succeeds, South East Water will fund an exciting project for Binsted School.

Currently, the Binsted community uses 168,000 litres (168 cubic metres) of water per day. That’s almost three-quarters of a million cups of tea!

With just a few small changes, it's estimated that the village can reduce its water use by five per cent from 1 April to 30 September.

It means saving a total of 1,540 cubic metres of water over the six months, which is the same as 19,250 full bathtubs.

While that may sound a lot, hitting the target is really easy. Broken down, it means each person needs to save just eight litres a day - that's less than a bucket of water!

Please see the link below to the challenge page and to learn how you can make a difference:

The school would love as many parishioners as possible to support this fantastic project and the council are very happy to do so.

Good luck!

The Parish Council have received the notice below regarding a road closure of Thurstons overnight on Wednesday 10th - Thursday 11th June 2026 from Hampshire Highways.

"As part of Hampshire County Council’s annual Planned Maintenance programme, this email is to inform you that we will be undertaking Asphalt Preservation works on Thurstons, Binstead, from The Street to its end.

These works are currently programmed to start on the 10th June 2026 and are expected to take up to 1 night to complete. During this time the road will be closed from approximately 19:00 to 07:00 hours but will be open outside of these hours. Vehicular access for residents and businesses will not be possible during the works. Pedestrian access to properties will not be affected, and emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

Whilst there is an allowance within the time periods shown above for delays, there may be times when we have to postpone works at very short notice; based on the latest weather forecasts, this can occur just prior to works commencing. We will always look to provide up to date information wherever we can, but sometimes these last-minute decisions can be difficult to relay to the travelling public in a timely manner. When we can, any significant changes to the scheduled dates will be made clear on the yellow sign boards located at the works limits.

Information signs advising road users will be erected before the start of works."

TONIGHT - please do come along.

Binsted’s Annual Parish Meeting will be taking place this evening (Wednesday) at 7pm in the Wickham Institute.

The Annual Parish Meeting is an opportunity to find out about what’s going on across the Parish, the year just gone, plans for the future and to have your say on current issues and the things you’d like the Parish Council to prioritise in the year ahead.

It is always a well attended event, and we try to make the evening a relaxed, lively and informative one with guest speakers and refreshments provided.

This year our guest speaker will be Giles Porter, a local farmer who will be providing an insight into what it is like to run a farming business in Hampshire in today’s world. Whilst many of us live in a rural setting, less of us understand the reality of farming and what a day in the life of a farmer looks like - we think you’ll find the talk an interesting and informative one. Do come along!

Refreshments will be served from 7pm. Anyone new to the Wickham Institute will find it opposite Binsted church. Open to all!

It's National Hedgerow Week and we want to celebrate all of our local farmers, landowners and volunteers who help keep the hedges in our beautiful parish healthy, long-lived and beneficial for wildlife.

Have you got a favourite local hedge? Maybe a hotspot where you see the local Yellowhammers singing? We'd love to see your photos in the comments!

The volunteers at Blacknest Fields have been working hard over the past few years on hedging at the site and the results are beginning to show. There is lots of re-growth on the hedges laid back in 2024 - before long they will be strong, thick and stock-proof hedges full of wildlife. New hedges planted over the past few years have been given a good mulch of wood chip this spring, meaning they will be better protected against summer droughts.

Well maintained native hedges really are 'biodiversity hotspots', providing not only protection for our livestock but also safe travel corridors and nesting places for our local wildlife.

And if you're coming up to the pavilion to vote, don't forget your ID!
