Yesterday, members of the toad patrol carried out a litter pick along part of Harling Drove in Thetford Forest, where our toads cross during their breeding migration.

We collected 6 bags of litter as well as various fly-tipped items like pipes and random drawers.

Highlights included finding a Grass Snake warming itself under some fly tipped plastic and a vole and ant nests, which had made their home in (separate) cans.

While it was great to be out in the sunshine, socialising and appreciating nature, it was a stark reminder of how much impact litter can have on our wildlife, especially on such a relatively short (500m) stretch of road.

If anyone is interested in getting involved with our group, please message Patrol Manager Gill at [email protected]

Every year on 28th April, people around the world come together for Save The Frogs Day, the largest global day dedicated to amphibian conservation.

Frogs are more important than many realise. They help keep ecosystems balanced and act as indicators of environmental health. When frogs are struggling, it’s often a warning sign for us all.

But frogs need our help. Habitat loss, pollution, pesticides, road mortality and disease are all putting pressure on populations across the UK.
The good news? You can make a difference:

Yesterday was the Devil's Punchbowl post-season social in Thetford! It was great to see each other (in the daylight, not wearing high-viz and not blinding each other with our headtorches😆) and celebrate our fantastic achievements during the 2026 patrol season, where we helped 3,833 Common Toads and 1,402 other amphibians!

Our group is full of truly inspiring people, from all walks of life, who come together through a shared love and passion for our wildlife and wanting to make a difference.

If anyone is interested in joining our friendly group, please get in touch with Patrol Manager Gill at [email protected].

We were invited along to the West Norfolk Toad Patrol social last night in Swaffham, where we got to know those in the Cockley Cley and Cranwich patrols. Was a very uplifting evening of sharing stories and experiences and great to be connected with other Wildlife Heroes! 💪
