A MESSAGE TO THOSE WITH GCSE RESULTS - And Parents

Today does not define you. Today does not dictate the rest of your life. It’s what you do AFTER today that counts.

Today proves your ability to study well & digest information. It also demonstrates your work ethic at an early age. But I promise you that 90% of that curriculum will not be useful in everyday life!

If you get or exceed the expectations you have, then be proud. You’ve worked hard & you deserve all the plaudits coming your way. If not, then your life is not over! Concentrate on something specialist that YOU want to do, and become the best you can be.

Absolutely NOTHING of what I have gone on to do in life (Sales, Event Host & Councillor) required a single GCSE. My partner yesterday unfortunately witnessed a road accident, and had to administer CPR at the scene.

Saving lives, building a house, wiring a building, operating a crane, plumbing….none of that is decided by school. Being a ‘people’ person, able to build relationships - that is far more important than grades.

My son collects his results from Sweyne today. And regardless of what grade it says on the paper, I am deeply proud of the young man he has become 🩵

But I’ll be honest, I’m also upset by the other news on the front page. Dawn from The Office facing this? It only seemed like yesterday that this receptionist was suffering David Brent in all his glory. Far too early 😏

A message from Keiron;

Very interesting week this week. And another learning curve in this journey of being a councillor.

Frustration that I have not been able to achieve everything I wanted to. Also frustration that our remit & responsibility doesn’t cover everything to solve all the email requests that come into me.

However the week has also been productive, in so far as setting things up for the coming weeks that I really hope will make a difference. I and colleagues are working on several projects. We are all elected to make a difference & the feeling of delivering and doing a good job is very important to me.

There will be things I get right. There will certainly be things that I get wrong. Please just know that I will always do the very best I can. If I am unable to secure a result that someone desires, I will be as frustrated as anyone, and it will never be because we haven’t tried hard enough.

In other news, I personally never met my colleague in Rayleigh West who got elected on May 7th, and I thought I knew most people across Essex! But when the stories about him blew up, I was absolutely livid. All of us in Essex have worked exceptionally hard and I can honestly say that the team is the most decent bunch of people you could meet. You have to congratulate the Tories who ran a great campaign & made the most of the unexpected opportunity to win on Thursday.
