Good evening again. A rare second post in one day!!

The storm affecting the West coast of Scotland on Sunday has now been named storm Ashely.

Looking at the forecast, there will be a good blast of SE wind early morning followed by a slight 'lull' either side of midday followed by a second blast of S or SW wind as the depression passes through.

The Met office have already issued an Amber warning for our area.

"Amber Warning: There is an increased likelihood of impacts from severe weather, which could potentially disrupt your plans. This means there is the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property. You should think about changing your plans and taking action to protect yourself and your property. You may want to consider the impact of the weather on your family and your community and whether there is anything you need to do ahead of the severe weather to minimise the impact."

Please take care if you have to be out on Sunday. Please ensure your vessels are secure and any kayaks dinghies etc are secured above high water mark. With high winds, spring tides, low air pressure and a probable storm surge items may be lifted from the shore.

Stay safe

Good evening. Tonight sees a 5.20mtr tide in Tobermory. With the current low pressure the tide could be an extra 25cm higher, plus a predicted storm surge of 0.4mtr. Might be looking at a tide of 5.8mtrs.

Main street properties should ensure their premises are protected in case the water seeps through the breast wall and reaches pavement.

Please note, with the tail end of Hurricane Ernesto heading our way Wednesdaynight into Thursday, combined with large spring tides, there may be an increased risk of coastal flooding.
There is also a yellow weather warning in place for the entire west coast of Scotland for rain, further increasing the flood risk.

With the possible storm surge, high winds and dropping air pressure, there is a chance the sea could breach the harbour wall, please take appropriate measures to protect your main St premises.

Teams will be out and about during the high water times keeping an eye out. If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to stop and ask us.

As always if you have an emergency on the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Team ventured down to Craignure on 'local' patrol to visit new helipad at Mull and Iona Community Hospital.
This is a welcome addition to the island. A time-saver and lifesaver for folk requiring rapid onward medical care.

Helipad looks great. Even better from the sky we bet!!

Helipad has fixed lights to assist pilots, a lit wind sock and a somewhat annoying alarm to warn pedestrians that aircraft are operating in vicinity!
Please stay well clear if you hear this soothing sound!

Hopefully you won't require this helipad- but it's reassuring that it's there if we do. (H)🚁
