Imagine this.
18 years before the Wright Brothers plane had its first flight and over 130 years before drones buzzed through the skies of the bay, in 1896 architect Sir Charles Nicholson created this amazing aerial view of the soon to be opened St Matthew's, Chelston. Interestingly the church itself was a continuing work in progress at that time because the eagle eyed among you will note that the tower in the illustration is not the tower we have today. Nor was the landscaping at the front of the church ever implemented. But notwithstanding those omissions it was still singled out by the famous architectural critic and historian Nikolaus Pevsner who described the interior as 'excellent work'. Why not come and see for yourself as we journey towards Easter?
This coming Saturday between 10.00 and 12.30 we have our Spring Fair in church. During the week our Lent Groups gather in church at 12.30 every Tuesday lunchtime. We also have Parish prayers every Wednesday at 10.00 am and of course Sunday Eucharist at 9.30am. We hope we can welcome you to our "undiscovered gem" very soon.
