🌿 Join the Ivy Volunteers 🌿

Love Wendover’s green spaces? Want to make a real difference outdoors? The Ivy Volunteers are looking for more helping hands!

We’re a small friendly team helping protect local trees by carefully cutting invasive ivy growth around the Witchell area, following the Parish Council’s Tree Safety Report. This important work helps prevent storm damage, supports healthy tree growth, and allows sunlight back in - all while protecting local wildlife and working safely.

📍 Meet at the Clock Tower
🕙 10am on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month

No experience needed - just enthusiasm and suitable outdoor clothing! We provide all tools and protective equipment, and there’s no pressure to attend every session. Whether you’re a gardener, nature lover, or simply looking to get involved locally, you’d be very welcome.

It’s a great way to:
✅ Stay active outdoors
✅ Meet friendly local people
✅ Learn more about Wendover’s trees
✅ Help keep Wendover green and thriving

Interested in giving it a try?
📧 Email [email protected] for more information or to come along to a session.

Every helping hand makes a difference 🌳

Wendover Parish Council strongly objects to the proposed development at Halton Lane

A unanimous vote at the Parish Council set out our opposition to the development at the field which serves as the gateway between the National Landscape and Wendover. We support (and thank) all the work done by a group of volunteers to oppose this plan and have submitted our objection to Buckinghamshire Council. We will be asking for it to be discussed in committee where we can speak against the plans.

While the Parish Council notes that this proposal is for up to 85 dwellings only and that access is the sole matter for determination at this stage, the Council considers that the application remains unacceptable in principle and does not mitigate against the conclusions of a previous application that was rejected on appeal for this site.

Fundamentally, this development does not address the unsuitability of the site identified by previous applications and complaints:

👉 Consideration of access - New access points, visibility splays, road engineering and associated works along Aylesbury Road would themselves contribute to the erosion of the rural character and gateway function of this approach to Wendover.

👉 Landscape – any development would result in the permanent loss of open countryside in a valued landscape

👉 Settlement Pattern – the proposed site plays a critical role as an open gap and gateway

👉 Visual amenity – this would suburbanise the landscape and significantly impact the experience of using the public rights of way around the development

Making plans for the weekend? 🌞

If you will be near rivers, lakes or the coast, take extra care around open water. Even on hot days, cold water shock can happen suddenly, so please stay cautious 🌊

If you see someone in difficulty:
📲Call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service
💧Encourage the person to float on their back
🏊Throw rescue equipment if available
❎Never enter the water yourself to attempt a rescue

Entering the water could put you at risk from cold water shock and strong currents. Wait for our crews to arrive, they have specialist training and equipment.
