Cllr Gillian Preston - Bedlinog and Trelewis monthly report for August

๐ŸŒป AUGUST UPDATE 2026 ๐ŸŒป

As we move through the summer holidays and begin to look towards autumn, I hope everyone has enjoyed making the most of the warmer weather. With children now preparing to return to school and many families settling back into their routines, August has been another busy month across Bedlinog and Trelewis.

Alongside committee meetings, community events and regular engagement with residents, I've continued to raise local issues and work with partners to ensure concerns are addressed as quickly as possible.

Whether through community activities, litter picks, supporting local groups, or helping residents with individual issues, it's always a privilege to represent our villages.

โœ… Members' Briefing - Rhydycar West

โœ… Licensing Committee (18th August)

โœ… Licensing Committee (25th August)

โœ… Meeting with Bedlinog Under 10's Football Club

โœ… Keep Wales Tidy drop-in session at Trelewis Community Centre

There was no Bedlinog & Trelewis Community Council meeting held during August.

๐Ÿค COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

๐Ÿก Community Hub Sessions
I attended the Bedlinog & Trelewis Community Council Hub every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month, speaking with residents, listening to concerns, providing advice and helping to resolve local issues.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Visit from Gerald Jones MP
It was a pleasure to welcome our MP, Gerald Jones, to the Community Hub during August. His visit gave residents an opportunity to discuss issues important to them and hear about work being undertaken on their behalf both locally and nationally.

๐ŸšŒ Community Hub Summer Trip - 20th August
It was lovely to accompany residents on the Community Hub Summer Trip. These outings provide a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, socialise and enjoy a day out.

๐ŸŒณ Nant Llwynog Park Footbridge - 21st August
I met with Friends of Nant Llwynog Park to discuss damage to the footbridge within the park. I was pleased to see the issue addressed and the bridge repaired on the very same day.

โšฝ Supporting Bedlinog Under 10's Football Club - 26th August
I met with representatives from Bedlinog Under 10's Football Club and was delighted to personally sponsor the team from my own funds to help them register as an official football team. Supporting opportunities for our young people is incredibly important, and I wish the team every success for the season ahead.

๐Ÿšฎ Community Litter Pick - 8th August
A big thank you to Community Councillor Vanessa Andrews and her granddaughter for joining me at a community litter pick. It's always encouraging to see people of all ages taking pride in our villages and helping to keep them clean and welcoming.

๐Ÿงน Stormtown Community Litter Pick - 26th August
Another successful litter pick took place in Stormtown, Cherry Tree Way and along Stormtown Mountain. Thank you to everyone who continues to support these efforts and help improve our local environment.

โ™ป๏ธ Keep Wales Tidy Drop-In Session - 27th August
I attended the Keep Wales Tidy drop-in session at Trelewis Community Centre, discussing environmental initiatives and opportunities to continue improving our local area.

๐ŸŽˆ Community Council Play Day
I was delighted to attend the Community Council Play Day at the Summit Centre, which was enjoyed by many local families. It was wonderful to see children having fun, making memories during the summer holidays and bringing the community together in such a positive atmosphere.

๐Ÿ‘• Free School Uniform Event - Treharris Community Centre
I was delighted to attend the Free School Uniform Event at Treharris Community Centre alongside Cllr Gareth Richards, Cllr David Jones, Deputy Leader of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, and representatives from Merthyr Tydfil Libraries. Events like these provide valuable support for local families and help ease some of the financial pressures associated with preparing children for the new school year.

๐Ÿ“ข LOCAL ACTION & REPORTS

โœ… Damage to the roundabout outside Manor View, Trelewis was reported and has now been repaired.

โœ… Overgrown vegetation near Club Row Bridge, Bedlinog was reported to Transport for Wales.

โœ… Overgrown vegetation between Hylton Terrace and Bedlinog School was reported, where growth was overhanging the pavement and extending into the school grounds.

โœ… Overgrown vegetation from Bedlinog Recreation Ground was reported after growth brought down fencing and extended into the road, narrowing the lane for vehicles and pedestrians.

๐Ÿ’ฌ STAYING ACCOUNTABLE

Thank you to everyone who contacted me during August, whether to report a concern, suggest an improvement, volunteer at a community event, or simply stop for a chat.

Being visible and accessible in our community remains extremely important to me, and I will continue working hard to support residents and represent Bedlinog and Trelewis.

๐Ÿ“ž If there is anything I can help with, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'm always happy to arrange a home visit or meet in person if that's easier.

Thank you for your continued support.
