🚔 You Said...

"Can you do something about the e-scooters on the Railway Path?"

✅ We Did!

Today, Staple Hill officers joined South Gloucestershire Council's Community Safety Team on the Railway Path, speaking with residents, listening to concerns and carrying out high-visibility patrols.

Most people were pleased to see us. Three people... not quite so much.

🛴🛴🛴 Three illegally used e-scooters were stopped and seized this afternoon.

A reminder that privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be ridden on public roads, pavements, cycle paths or public rights of way.

And for anyone wondering what happens next... these three scooters won't be heading home. They're destined for the crusher.

We'll continue our daytime and evening patrols, so if you see us out and about, come and say hello.

👮🚴 Officers from Staple Hill Neighbourhood Policing Team have been out this evening patrolling the cycle path route from Staple Hill ➡️ Mangotsfield ➡️ Bitton ➡️ Emersons Green ➡️ Staple Hill.

🚴‍♀️ 👮‍♂️ Officers have been carrying out patrols this morning on the Bristol to Bath Cycle Path, providing a visible presence and engaging with users of the route.

There has been plenty of positive engagement throughout the patrols, with officers speaking to cyclists and walkers about local issues and crime prevention.

We'll continue to be out on patrol and working with the community to keep the cycle path safe for everyone.

A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, in connection with offences in South Gloucestershire.

The incidents have been investigated as part of an ongoing forcewide operation to tackle car-key burglaries.

The charge relates to eight reported burglaries in South Gloucestershire and Somerset.

🚴‍♀️🐴 Ongoing patrols continue along the Bristol to Bath Cycle Path, with our mounted officers out engaging with path users and the wider community.

It was great to have so many positive interactions with members of the public, listening to concerns, providing reassurance, and promoting safety along this popular route.

These patrols form part of our continued partnership working with local agencies and stakeholders, helping to keep the cycle path a safe and welcoming place for everyone to enjoy.

A shoplifter has been jailed for more than 18 months after pleading guilty to several offences in South Gloucestershire.

John Iles, 46, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 82 weeks in prison at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 12 August.

PC James Mullin, officer in the case, said: “We welcome the custodial sentence which has been handed to Iles, who is a prolific shoplifter who shows a total disregard for his actions.

“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and the harm it can cause businesses and the wider community is immeasurable.

“Not only does the loss of merchandise effect the running of a business, but the theft and related anti-social behaviour can cause harassment, alarm and distress to shop owners and staff.”

🚨 ILLEGAL E-BIKE SEIZED BY THORNBURY NPT TEAM 🚨

Officers from the Thornbury Neighbourhood Policing Team seized this modified e-bike today after it was found being ridden by a juvenile with no licence and no insurance.

At first glance, the bike appeared to be a legal pedal-assisted e-bike. However, closer inspection revealed it was fitted with a throttle-only system and had been deliberately adapted, with the chain removed, to disguise its true nature.

The attached photograph shows the bike's display, which highlights the speeds the e-bike was capable of reaching under electric power. Despite appearing to be a pedal-assist bike, the removal of the chain meant the vehicle was operating without any pedal input and was being propelled solely by the motor.

As a result, this vehicle does not meet the legal requirements of an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) and is instead classed as a motor vehicle, requiring the appropriate licence, insurance and legal compliance to be used on the road.

These bikes are becoming increasingly common and pose a significant risk to riders, pedestrians and other road users. They are not only dangerous, but in many cases illegal.
